wikipedia's data shows that AI is siphoning traffic away from the site, which is a danger to its sustainability. ironically Wikipedia is more important than ever to users who want reliable information instead of slop, and to AI companies that need it for training data www.404media.co/wikipedia-sa...

Fine:

1) What’s happening to the U.S. is part of a transnational far-right, autocratic wave and it cannot be treated as a purely domestic issue

2) A major subset of these dynamics is globalized kleptocracy/oligarchy; tackling that requires rebuilding & enhancing int’l anti-corruption mechanisms
So there’s a U.S. hegemony discussion on Bluesky and I think I’m just gonna sit this one out.

If you haven’t shared your thoughts on the upcoming guidelines changes directly with Bluesky yet, take a few minutes to do so!

Walk the dog, take a bio break, brew a coffee, etc. and write a few short words to explain why these changes are dumb.

Read the thread. She saw it ALL coming.
1/ A longtime Wired editor just wrote a mush-brained essay about how he totally missed the political rot of Silicon Valley (& still doesn't get it).

But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that

frankly exhausting to see some artists who made "well, i draw nudes but they're ARTISTIC" their entire brand for years now complain that they are being thrown in the same bag as porn and suddenly realise censorship is wrong. i mean, cool you got there in the end i guess

Do you want to screen Jeffrey Epstein: Bad Pedophile in your town or city, unlike a cowardly major movie chain?

Email us at [email protected].

We'll allow you to screen it for free.

Yes, again, this is real.
A very big Onion announcement:

The Onion has spent the last two months working on a masterpiece.

It's a documentary titled Jeffrey Epstein: Bad Pedophile.

It's so good, in fact, we were set to release it in theatres nationwide on October 2nd.

Then two weeks ago, Charlie Kirk was shot.

i am on my hands and knees actually begging people to stop doomposting on my posts/calls to action/infographics etc

not only is it bad for YOUR mental health, its bad for MY mental health, and worst of all it may scare off people who otherwise could have been moved to action.

PLEASE STOP IT.

Am I hopeful that sending feedback directly to bsky will change anything given how they have not acknowledged any of the concerns brought up in the collection of it prior to finalizing the guidelines update? No.

But noise CAN make waves, pressure from users influences action. Why comply in advance?

And don't forget that pandemics historically bring about fascism. Once you get used to the mass death and disability, it makes it a lot easier to manufacture consent to kill "healthy/regular" ppl
people think fascism means "one giant conflict and conflagration, open warfare everywhere at all times, no one is going to work anymore, all ordinary life has halted for everyone" and like, yeah, it could go that way, but that's not the baseline reality of fascism, that's the endpoint

Keep calling your representatives in both the house and senate and hammer how this is a surveillance/anti-encryption bill under the guise of "protecting children". Tell them to OPPOSE!

I'm sure the BSKY changes concerning NSFW are there to attract advertisers.

Every big corpo social platform will use NSFW/free expression to attract users than tighten the rules.
- Tumblr did it.
- Twitter did it (except for nazis).
- Bluesky is doing it.
