And the way I see the AI sphere is like the last soubresaut of that industry in trying to keep the status it has had for the past 3 decades. Saying that AI isn’t just an evolution of software, but a new revolution. Something that will unlock the same level of growth the internet has.

Maybe I’m wrong, but the way I see it is similar to the electricity sector from the late 19th century to the early 20th century.

The internet and more broadly IT and software sector is becoming mature.

Parliament is fundamentally partisan and political, a prime minister is equally so. But under this framework the head of State is supposed to be apartisan. And really that’s the key idea.

Since the chief of the executive branch only has a ceremonial role it means that parlement reigns supreme, which would stop people like Trump from having any impact.

It also has the benefit that nobody can claim to represent the will of the people while overruling democracy.

Its about separating partisan politics from the executive branch.

In effect giving only a ceremonial role to the head of State and chief of the executive branch. In Canada it is through the King and his Governor General that this is done, but it can also be done with a president.

so yes, machine learning is a very, very important part of a social media platform. platforms of scale _have_ to grapple with these problems, and only-human review just isn't it.

even if we ignore the ethics concerns about the toll it takes on humans to have to review harmful content (many other experts here can speak more about this than i can!) we're still talking about an astronomical undertaking - one that also has to scale with sudden traffic spikes or user growth

this is in just 24 hours! now, go through your camera roll on your phone. how many photos do you have? a few thousand?

look at every image. see how long it takes you to look at each image - individually - and decide what is in it. don't think about it too long, but do look at each one.
