Just to b moire transparent, lol... since history, Franklin was a Sputnick school, and became the pub school w/the most Rhodes Scholars in the US, but, in NOLA, one had to pass a 'test' to get in. Anyways, long story, great school for whites and my godfather told us to move to NOLA so I could go.

We watched the Watergate Hearings live during class for weeks at my high school in N0LA, Ben Franklin. Our teacher was super cool, a self-id'ed rich Osage like in Flower Moon teaching kids for the common good. There wasn't much discussion or debate, but a feeling of wasted opportunity and shame.

John Mitchell was convicted and went to prison for crimes he committed as Attorney General during the Nixon administration. Just saying.

John Ruskin, the excitable Victorian critic, thought Fra Angelico was not a painter at all: “not an artist, properly so-called, but an inspired saint.”

That canonization — a friar must be a recluse, and novelty is incompatible with eternity — is the easy way out....

loud trance music with the subwoofers seemingly facing our beds from the ceiling blasted for a few minutes and then screaming matches about 'chaos' in spanish for 4 times over an hour was the high point of last night. and then the other apartments started fighting too:

As early as May 1764, when the first Anglican missionaries were sent out from England to the newly British Florida, occasional services of the Church of England were held in the area of what is now Lake City, later called Alligator by the newly independent Americans, and renamed Lake City in 1859.

Sixty+ years ago, I'd have been here, at St. James Episcopal in Lake City FL either in the choir (we actually had a black choral dir.) or as an altar boy. We went to church every sunday here in the 60's, except for one year when my dad decided that Jacksonville Beach was a kind of church, too. 😎

Police arrested Ella, Dizzy and Illinois Jacquet at Houston's Music Hall for gambling #OTD.

They'd just ended the 1st set of a concert for an integrated audience in Jacquets hometown.

They paid the fines at the police station and hurried back for the 2nd set to end the show.

Patented renewable research thwarted by big oil. Exxon, etc. sued him into oblivion finally settling out of court, 10 years later.

He actually believed his chemical research discoveries, which he had discovered in dream, could help replace oil.

When I was a kid, I'd actually tell people my dad had discovered a renewable substitute for petrochemicals that could help save the world, but the oil companies had stopped him...

He'd like me to tell the story about how he rode half of an elk, like a huge sled, that he'd shot and partially slaughtered, into a rock on his ocassional 3 week hunts (where'd he hike with his fly rod and high-powered rifle). All the kids who had kids got a bear carcass rug w/head for each kid. 🐻

Both my father and brother were ocassional professional forest fire fighters. They both were Forest Service Research Foresters and in the summers, as grad students, risked their lives saving trees.

My dad was fanatical about living anywhere where there were EVER burns or even had a risk of a burn.

No disrespect to my dad, who'd be a 100 this month. He got the whole family threatened for his 'yankee' views...

Our family was threatened with a fire bomb for having an African botanist for dinner in the 60's in Lake City, FL. I was 9 and we made a big deal about world religions and dietary constraints. We had the globe out. We got a phone call and my dad called the police and we acted like nothing happened.🤪

I got flicked by my dad's finger behind the ear a few times at gas stations for using the 'wrong' water fountain in the '60's... ok only if the 'right' one is busted and nobody's around. 🤨

Watson said she saw agents dragging residents, including kids, out of the building without any clothes on and into U-Haul vans.

“It was heartbreaking to watch,” said Watson. “Even if you’re not a mother, seeing kids coming out buck naked and taken from their mothers, it was horrible.”

My god.

“Watson said she saw agents dragging residents, including kids, out of the building without any clothes on and into U-Haul vans. Kids were separated from their mothers…’It was heartbreaking to watch…seeing kids coming out buck naked and taken from their mothers, it was horrible.’”
