It's the 3rd of January 1939, your name is professor James Smith and you are staring at a drawing of a fish. It's not a regular fish. It is a completely impossible fish.

Every generation (sometimes more often!) comes a president who forgets the last time the US started an occupation of a foreign country and it went really badly and even the oil turned out not to be worth it. But THIS TIME it’s going to work! For sure!

The president unilaterally decided to attack a sovereign nation and kidnap its leader, and now he says he's just going to run that county himself for a while too.

Call your representatives now and demand they impeach him.

@cleolinda.bsky.social LJpocalypse…we’ve all been there. 🎶

I know you left years ago, but possibly of interest nonetheless:
Okay, I will preface this with the GIGANTIC disclaimer that I promise I know how this looks, and I *swear* this is not personally motivated: If you have an old #LiveJournal account, and it has things you still care about in it, download it or import it to Dreamwidth SOON. Details:

Conservative outlets love this pocket-watching hypocrisy trope, especially as some sort of gotcha for WOC, by willfully conflating left politics with forced universal aceticism.

To them, socialists are not supposed to be stylish or attractive. Rama's both, and on her own terms, not maga aesthetic.

“We’re gonna just steal all your stuff, without permission, to train our money-making answering machine. Don’t like it? Tough! You’re just a Poor. Come back when you’ve got enough money to sue us.” …That’s the message, is it? Well, the backlash has begun… 😏
“I just don’t know how you go around, asking everyone first. I just don’t see how that would work.”

I brought a “special cocktail” to my in-laws’ for the holidays. It was a wild success, so here’s the recipe. Name TBD; accepting suggestions.

In a red wine glass:
3/4 oz chai-spiced rum
3/4 oz cranberry liqueur (I recommend Flag Hill)
1 oz unsweetened cranberry juice
Red glitter
Top with Lambrusco

OMG - f*ck AI for ruining the em-dash for writers. I use them all the time. Of course, what a shock that AI uses them since they were trained off my voice and other authors' voices.
I'm a writer who has specifically been directed *not* to use em-dashes because "they mean it was written by AI." I can detect AI writing, but it is not simply a matter of the punctuation used.

Still mind-blowing that a top admin official was revealed to have taken $50,000 in cash in a paper bag from people looking for government favors, the reaction of the administration was "Whatever losers, this is how it works now" and bigshot news media said "If you say so, we'll forget about it"
Border czar Tom Homan didn't receive a normal background check for his role while his bribery probe was still ongoing:

Justice officials felt sure Homan would not be able to obtain a security clearance based on the evidence gathered. It remains unclear how Homan was eventually granted clearance.

In a post-Christmas miracle, my fruitcake-hating uncle refrained from "joking" about how much he hates fruitcake when offered a slice of the one I baked. My other uncle, who loves fruitcake, pronounced it excellent. I feel vindicated now.

Leaving aside the pure evil for a second, he’s a total dumbass. His whole argument is that if you make sinking random civilian boats legal, you need Palantir to make sure they’re bad, because obviously the laws will be super tight, right?

Nvm that they’re doing it now, sans law, sans Palantir.
