Emmanuel Macron responds to Trump's tariffs:

"France is committed to the sovereignty & independence of nations, in Europe and elsewhere... No intimidation or threat will influence us - neither in Ukraine, nor in Greenland, nor anywhere else in the world when we are confronted with such situations."

It's extraordinary but ultimately correct that Macron is draws a parallel between Greenland & Ukraine, essentially putting Trump in the same camp as Putin - an aggressor and violator of national sovereignty & international law.

The US under Trump is now being called out as a rogue state by Europe.

Living a moral life in an age of bullies requires collective action; it cannot be done alone. Each of us must organize and participate in a vast network of moral resistance. From this solidarity we will grow stronger. This is what our current moment requires.

Europe should share its escalation plan tomorrow.
Tariffs on US goods, taxes on tech companies, dumping US stocks, currency and treasuries. That's the order of escalation. That should set US markets in motion on Monday and maybe get some sane Americans to call their senators and congressmen.

Something important about how regular folks have responded to the occupation in Minnesota is that it has created a permission structure for other people across the country to feel like they can fight this regime. Over the past couple of weeks I've seen a lot of people finally step off the sidelines.

The blackmail has caused a strong response in Greenland itself.

In protest to this step the current prime minister, Jans-Frederik Nielsen, accompanied by the previous PM, Mute Bourup Egede, and the Speaker of the Parliament marched to the US consulate in Nuuk, the capital of Greenland.

What makes this statement by Emmanuel Macron so unprecedented is, for the first time, a leading European ally is equating Trump with Putin.

“No intimidation or threat will influence us - neither in Ukraine, nor in Greenland, nor anywhere else in the world.”

EVERYTHING has changed.

And Macron is absolutely right. Huge credit to him for having the guts to say out loud what all European leaders are saying behind closed doors.

Trump is a clear and present danger to European security and the world order.

I would like to think the Mad King proclaiming “I will continue to illegally raise taxes on the American people until the NATO alliance collapses” would be the type of statement to cause Congress to act, but I’m not sure there’s any red line the GOP Congress has anymore.
Trump says he'll impose a 10% tariff (rising to 25% in June) on Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the UK, the Netherlands and Finland, because they've sent people to Greenland, until the US can buy Greenland.
