A PR person pitched me and said, “We have enjoyed your coverage in the New York Times as well as your book, ‘The Secret Life: A Book About the Future of Privacy.’” No book with that name exists. Turns out they used ChatGPT to recommend journalists to pitch and it included this made-up fact in my bio

Heads-up! Huge news from Google about its ‘Site reputation abuse’ spam policy and about its systems that identify if a subdomain or section of content is ‘starkly different’ than the main content. Oh, and they discuss site-wide signals (just like I explained in my post yesterday).

This policy is still enforced with manual actions but Google confirmed there are algorithms that detect similar issues.

Highly recommend that digital PRs listen to this conversation with Olivia Lott. The section on personalization versus "spray and pray" outreach is particularly useful...Olivia gives specific approaches she takes to outreach that scale, but are personalized/targeted enough to get results.
