Really quick chart to show the rise of declared state of emergencies due to sever weather events. See the trend?

Also we are only 45 days into 2026!

Can we talk about climate change now?

The storm did arrive, & more end grain native NZ recycled timber chopping boards in clamps.

Lightning app going bonkers with the storm over the Lammerlaw Ranges west of Ōtepoti Dunedin.

1 day apart.

Apparently our drinking water is going to be at risk (because it’s so pristine atm).

In the workshop watching the approaching thunderstorm, but given I’m not in the 1 in 1 years flooding they’re having up north I’m not complaining.

My bluesky timeline.

That National & Labour are neck & neck in the polls tells me how Kiwis just love enshitification - we have elevated not giving a fuck to a national motto.

Again here in New Zealand the accepted political discourse is to find ways to mine, drill & import LNG polluting the fuck out of our environment, accelerating 1/100 year floods, yet this hideous creature that lurks under the bed 'green ideology' must be feared at all costs.

I am pistified

Well played Ōtepoti Dunedin

Do you trust Winston tell the truth, the whole truth & nothing but the truth 100% of the time?

Might be the best end grainy chopping boards I’ve made. I will have 12 of the medium boards next week.

Sharpened blades & not rushing = all of Paul’s digits intact & super crisp chopping boards.

2 a night in clamps for the next week.

I love this place to a tittle

But the heavily censored & US centric nature of it's Tenor gifs is really bloody boring.

Thank god for gif uploads now.

It’s kinda cruel looking at a vague glimpse of a summer evening over Ōtepoti Dunedin, whereas 11°C & low cloud over Muaūpoko Otago Peninsula.

Worst summer ever

This was a really challenging shot to get. 3mins north of Haast this wetland screamed stop the car!

I spent about 90mins taking what I thought were bangers (they weren't) then as the rain started, the drops in the water suddenly gave the rainforest wetland context

We all know the first two months of summer can be really mixed bag in Dunedin, but don’t worry, Feb/March are the warmest & sunniest…

10°C & somewhere behind that is the city of Dunedin.

Last years ‘worst summer ever’, we were lucky compared to this 1/100 year worst summer ever.

Still changing

13 butcher block style chopping boards worth of strips here (inc the 3 in clamps that cracked).

These will have the edges trued up (again, I wish I had about $8k more fun woodworking toys to make this faster) & then have their final glue up.
February 10, 2026 at 4:50 AM
Cutting the blanks into strips (156 times).

A brand new blade makes this a dream & me extra careful with push sticks. #ChoppingBoards
