So true: “Every department is loaded full of ornery, argumentative, eccentric voices trained in different methods of research, pursuing vastly different subjects, and often battling out their differences ad nauseam. That’s the boring, ugly truth about intellectual diversity at universities.”

In the best of all possible worlds, there WOULD have been a Comey perp walk & he would have shown up dressed like this:
Portland protest cartoon critters dancing

They are to be mocked, per @aoc.bsky.social. Or costumed Portland ICE protesters..

The Trump regime is having trouble prosecuting James Comey on frivolous charges, and hasn’t been able to get charges against Letitia James.

They couldn’t keep Kimmel off the air.

Their desire for authoritarianism is bottomless, but their capacity is not. Hurting people yes, but bluffing a lot too.

Trump fired a bunch of Immigration Judges + Board of Immigration Appeals members so that he could stack those orgs with loyalists. Our NSF funded research confirms the work background of IJs and BIA members predict their rate of asylum denial. See also our description of the immigration bureaucracy.

One thing that piece missed was this collection of ~10 local right wingers who are also creating confirmation bias, MAGA-friendly content about "war ravaged Portland" at the ICE facility. They are adept at presenting as "regular citizens just reporting what's happening." bsky.app/profile/seth...

There is an entire stable of far right "influencers" cosplaying as journalists who are in Portland "covering" events there. The person who compiled this list was arrested for his actions on January 6. He texted a friend from DC to celebrate that the Proud Boys were "beating the shit" out of BLM.

I love when Andy Ngo does one of his David Attenborough-style posts about Antifa and highlights some kid who took a bong rip and waddled into the protest dressed like a giant muppet.

My favorite flavor of his commentary by far.
Andy Ngo wants to draw your attention to Barney the dinosaur

firetrucks were DEFINTELY way more fun to play with than anything cop-related at the time. but that was just a downstream perk.
paulrosenberg.bsky.social
It was the most intense identity thing I recall from my early childhood. 2-3 years before cowboys & indians, which was obviously just something we were playing at. not so cops vs firemen.

So, a 79-year-old junior senator in 2027 is Dem establishment's play for Maine??? SERIOUSLY???
Does any polisci prof in America have any hair left they haven't pulled out?

77-year-old Maine Gov. Janet Mills has apparently been coaxed into jumping into the Maine Senate race, challenging Graham Platner in a Democratic primary.

The 40-year-old Platner has become a favorite of progressives and Democrats wanting a more muscular response to Trump. He has raised millions.

When I was 3-4, there were two kinds of boys: those who wanted to be cops & those who wanted to be firemen.
I wanted to be a fireman.

In a fight between Pritzker and and police, who is going to win? This is what happens when both parties allowed law enforcement to become one of the most powerful political actors in the country -- a taxpayer-funded political movement that wants to kill people.

If we get through this, the #1 response alongside the trials, needs to be an absolutely stacked, muscular Congress.

How we get there through the level of anticonstitutional capitulation and collaboration described here, I don't know
vermontgmg.bsky.social
If appropriations bills are not seen as enforceable contracts, why should any Member of Congress vote to fund any part of the federal government under Donald Trump? You're voting to provide money for lawlessness. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/there-is-n...
There is no budget "deal" to be made
President Trump has so broken the constitutional framework as to make joint normal, responsible government impossible.

If Republicans pull their support from Donald Trump, does that automatically mean that Trump stands down from being President, taking his administration with him, to face the music?

Or does it make some desperate gamble, involving the US military, to stay in power and free from jail more likely? 🤔

well, he IS right that MAGA is fucked. so theoretically a non-idiotic piece COULD be written.

Douthat doesn't do non-idiotic.

My family's been over-reacting ever since my paternal grandfather escaped from a Tsarist prison & my maternal grandmother was shipped off to America from Poland at 16, because she was so radical her parents were sure she wouldn't live to see 21
So yeah, for well over 100 years.
Not about to stop now
thomaszimmer.bsky.social
If there is one thing the American mainstream media simply cannot resist, it’s a “Relax, the Libs are overreacting again!” take that presents a wildly disingenuous version of what is actually going on in MAGA land to launder the Right and chide “the Left” for being hysterical.

Two years ago, many of the world's biggest dairy and food companies formed a coalition to cut the methane emissions from their suppliers' herds.
