All city dogs deserve activities like this!

Not all (our huskies especially) could be trusted off leash, but escaping the concrete jungle for real nature is something we all (humans and canines alike) should have access to.

If we can get some steady money coming in soon enough we might be able to afford to adopt this cutie who is currently in holding with a foster here in Minneapolis. She reminds me of my first husky Rio in looks and Gypsy (whom we lost last year) in temperament.

Tonttu took full advantage of the stream flowing out from Mound Springs Park on our warm hike today. He could not stop laying down in the stream as we hiked the path that follows it.

Pawing at riffling water was something Gypsy used to do. It's sweet that Tonttu is picking up the habit. 🥹

Nearly white husky Zeena prowls the top of a wide rock ledge bordering a rest area along a bike trail. There are trees and plants behind starting to show hints of fall color.

Zeena from the previous photo, caught mid-launch as she pounces towards something rustling in the brush behind the rock wall, head up and ears perked.

Two huskies, Zeena and Tonttu, slurp water from a travel canine water dispenser: a rubber bowl attached to the end of a metal water bottle. They both have their noses pressed into the bowl, sharing the water with surprising camaraderie.

A fat, smooth caterpillar crosses a paved bike path, with a hiking boot next to it for scale. It's 2-3 inches long, black with a brassy yellow head, and a series of pairs of dot clusters down the back that look like braille but with too many dots.

Neighborhood walks are pretty routine, even with a pretty trail down an isthmus between a couple of ponds mid-way.

One is visible as just a face emerging from the side of the image. The painter has an easel with a painting in progress propped up behind him, facing a row of birch trees which provide both shade and dramatic back lighting.

Sniffs complete, Zeena watches a small dog and its owner walk down the gravel trail to the left of the painter in the previous photo. The painter smiles down at the dogs (Tonttu no longer visible in the frame), happy for the encounter even if the huskies don't find him as interesting as the other canine.
