Two Guys from Minnesota and their assortment of huskies (currently Zeena and Tonttu) sharing their outdoor adventures
Car battery was dead from the cold, so we had to alter our hiking plans yesterday to just a walk around the local lake.

Not the change of scenery we'd been looking forward to, but at least the huskies got some enrichment!

It's snowing, but it's also blowing, and the ground is ice, so there's nothing for the new snow to stick to!

Thankfully, anti-ice preparations kept us safe on today's walk.

in case you're wondering how seriously our allies are taking the threat to Greenland, the nonprofit that produces news for the British defense forces has a special on the troops Denmark has stationed there

incidentally, they have dog sled troops

Over the weekend we remembered a trail along the Minnesota River that we hadn't visited in quite a while. It's messy in summer and icy in winter where poor drainage means water over the trail, but right now EVERYTHING is icy, so it's as good a time to visit […]

Yes, Paw2Trail is an account celebrating dogs in the outdoors, but sometimes you have to acknowledge dogs that got style too!
In 1977, designer Edith Head--the direct inspiration for Edna Mode from The Incredibles--designed this outfit for Blitzen, a champion Siberian husky owned by Phyllis Castleton of Anchorage. Head was in town for a benefit premiere for the film Airport '77. #alaskahistory #alaska

I have embarked on this and I am LOVING it. Funny and self-deprecating about the dangers and discomfort of the trail, with plenty of details for my inner Call of the Wild-obsessed twelve-year-old.
Irresistible book titles.

When you’re tent camping in the winter and your dog falls asleep in your lap before you can get in your sleeping bag…add layers!

Hey friends! Megan could really use our support now more than ever as she navigates moving her entire kennel in the dead of winter. She’s fighting with ice as she tries to break down her kennels and get them packed to haul out. Every day is more money spent, so sponsorship helps a ton!!

And one last downhill, this one nice and straight, not quite as steep as the first, but a good fast clip for all of us!

Now everyone's happily snoozing.

Another hill, not quite so steep, but with a few bends in it. Managed to stay on my skis despite the turns and hitting one soft spot.

Tonttu and Zeena were working much better together here.

Woohoo! Finally some fast skijoring on X-C skis!

Back at the UMore Lone Rock Trail, this time the 4.3 mi middle loop. Still not groomed, but a few prior skiers set tracks and there was just enough snow to float over even the thinnest wind-blown spots […]

Zorro's foster family picked him up yesterday, so we're back to a family of four.

With fresh snow on the ground, we headed out to check out skijoring conditions at UMore's east end of the Lone Rock Trail. The trail hasn't been groomed, so the wide Hok skis […]

Zeena is not a counter surfer.

But if a house guest happens to pull half a lasagna off the counter onto the floor, she is not above helping to cover up the crime!

Zorro may look like he's not wearing a harness, but that's just because our only spare X-back in his size is totally black!
This was Zorro's first time skijoring (we presume) so Jeff took him on an easy loop with lots of time to explore. He picked up the pace when the rest of the pack passed him on the way back. Overall, it was a good experience!

Yes, this is Pike Island again […]

Zeena and Tonttu got to enjoy a nice quick pace down and back, Tonttu got a roll in the snow (or several), and there were a few deer and other dogs to see along the way.

Back on the skis!

Snow's back! Just enough for decent skiing. Dale took the more experienced huskies on his faster XC skis while Jeff wrangled Zorro on his bush-whacking Hok skis.

Here's part of the return leg where Zeena and Tonttu realized that they were […]
