Fixing Our Streets is slowing down traffic in Portland’s Centennial neighborhood.

Crews completed building speed cushions (aka speed bumps) on SE 174th Avenue from Haig to Marie streets, right next to Powell Butte Elementary, part of PBOT’s effort to reduce speed on neighborhood cut-through routes.

In addition to the new sidewalks, we’re removing the existing temporary transit platform, updating 3 curb ramps to be ADA-compliant, building a curb extension at the northeast corner at SE 80th Avenue, & installing a sump maintenance hole at the intersection of SE 81st Avenue and Washington Street.

Don't get towed! Know your Leaf Day and be prepared to move your vehicle outside of the tow zone boundary. Before sweeping, no-parking signs are placed along the street in the tow district.

Vehicles with properly displayed disability placards will not be subject to tow.

Thanks to Mayor Wilson for joining us this morning!

Investment from Mayor Wilson’s 2025-26 budget gave PBOT the opportunity to rebuild the program, including expanding into East Portland. PBOT crews continue to sweep 1,000 miles of major arterial streets 6 to 8 times per year as well as protected bike lanes several times per year.

Every year, PBOT’s Leaf Day service helps us provide cleaner, safer streets, keep our storm drains clear, ensuring our intersections don’t flood. This year, PBOT added 29 new zones. Historically, PBOT had to cut residential street sweeping citywide.

He said so himself that PBOT crews are the professionals, skilled at making sure they get all the way to curb, picking up every last leaf. Streets so clean you could eat off them (but don’t though).

The mayor tried his hand at both driving the street sweeper (don’t worry, he has his CDL!) and controlling the brushes that help pick up the leaves.

Mayor Wilson joined PBOT Director Millicent Williams, Public Works Deputy City Administrator Priya Dhanapal, and PBOT staff in NE Portland while crews picked up leaves as part of the city’s Leaf Day Service.
