Rush hour looks different from the seat of a bike. With a few extra layers and bike lights, a commute home or quick errand can shift from a frustrating necessity to a time of active, unexpected discovery. PBOT works year-round to install more bike routes across the city, making bike trips safer and easier. Last summer, we buffered and widened the bike lane on NE Broadway as part of the NE Broadway Pave & Paint project. Now, Portlanders on bikes have a more comfortable east-west connection through Northeast Portland. Stay tuned! Tomorrow, we’ll share the final installment of this three-part bike story. BOT is facing our eighth year in a row of budget cuts. While everything gets more and more expensive, we have less money each year. Our streets are deteriorating, our bridges are aging, and we can't afford to make the safety improvements you are asking for.

We love a nosey neighbor.

Jimmy loves watching the construction on NE 57th Avenue and Halsey Street so much that his owner set him up with a special seat.

We know your weather app is telling you it’s going to be 60 degrees this week. We know you want to spend your time, money, and energy on doing anything except for preparing for snow that, let’s be honest, might not come this year.

This is an appreciation post to all the Portlanders stocking up on ice melt, buying snow shovels, checking emergency kits, and making plans with neighbors…like this Redditor who’s taking responsibility for the PNW’s nearly record low snow levels (we don’t think it’s your fault).

We may not have been naming snowplows back then, but city workers have always cleared snow during winter storms. This photo, from Jan. 4, 1958 shows two people using shovels and a scooper truck to clear snow from SW 6th Avenue and Yamhill Street.

On February 4, we’ll be honoring Rosa Parks and her contributions to the civil rights movement. We will not be collecting fares on our buses, MAX and LIFT.

Portland Streetcar and @ctranvancouver.c-tran.com will also join us in not collecting fares.
