Cold weather has crippled a big chunk of the MBTA's Red Line fleet, which is mainly comprised of antiquated cars that break down in very low temps.

No one asked — but if you have premium transit (American version thereof) in your town, you have something that’s very scarce.

If you don’t allow growth around it, you are hoarding that scarce asset.

If you can’t minimally comply with the super-permissive MBTA Communities reqs, you should be sued.
Massachusetts is in a housing crisis – every community in the state has a responsibility to step up and do their part.

The courts have been clear: compliance with the MBTA Communities Law is mandatory. My office will assist any town working to come into compliance.

Dang, you miss one evening of live reactions to… what turns out to be a plane with bog-standard electrical problems? …And now the morning timeline is just post after post of fond future-nostalgia/fantasy for the celebration we all hope to see and be a part of. I should lay in some bubbly.

The funniest thing about the hockey show Heated Rivalry (which contains lots of sex and romance, but very little hockey) is the continual discussion of whether Gritty exists in that universe.

One of the problems with noise-canceling headphones is that they got clever and will pause or turn down the volume when you speak. Great feature! Until you sneeze and the headphones can’t tell that that’s not speaking.

I regret to inform you that potato chips smothered in dark chocolate are the best snack in the world (while also being terrible for you). Specifically potato chips with ridges, and I don’t think they would be as good with milk chocolate, though that is otherwise my general preference.

TIL, listening to a book about Eisenhower: he played football against Jim Thorpe during his college days! Also he might have been the last US president who rode horses without affectation, having been born in 1890. During his early Army years, a mule was the best way to get around rural Panama.

You know what would be great in this parcel right next to the 1650 house? An orchard of Roxbury Russet apple trees (a chance seedling from about 1640)! it’s a pretty small parcel, but 6-8 trees would surely fit!

I propose that, when the urbanists win and we rip out Storrow Drive to make more parkland on the banks of the Charles, we have a festival every Labor Day where we gather to ritually sacrifice a box truck on what was once Storrow.

These cats hate each other, actually, but they both like me so much that when one is in my lap the other will come up on the back of the couch and climb onto my arm to be “in my lap” too. importantly, they cannot notice on another or the magic falls and one of them leaves.

Oh the feeling of the season: you’ve pounded the pavement, done all the errands, purchased all the gifts, and then you get home and realize you can’t find the scotch tape that you know is somewhere in the house. (Yes, I will go back out; no, I am not crazy enough to use electrical tape on presents.)
