In this article, a few people picked up that adaptability is part of what makes ‘good’ teaching.

That feels especially relevant now, with the current discussions within Scotland’s curriculum improvement cycle.

We did it @uoe-pe.bsky.social.
Working with Brodie Runciman and Karen Munro we shared the MA PE programme at the #SATPE conference as part of our re-accreditation journey.

Some excellent feedback and comments from delegates. Thanks to everyone who came to see us.

I know this might sound absurd to many (especially politicians) but what if we filled them with highly skilled and properly supported educators?

As part of the Fringe, the Centre for Events & Festival is having its launch and debate event at Thomson's Land, Moray House, Tues, 5 Aug.

It will be a public debate on the question: Do large scale cultural festivals deliver more social value than major sporting events? I'll be co-moderating!

Text:

CEF LAUNCH AND DEBATE EVENT

DO LARGE SCALE CULTURAL EFESTIVALS DELIVER MORE SOCIAL VALUE THAN MAJOR SPORTING EVENTS?

MEET -- DEBATE -- COLLABORATE

@UNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH
05.08.25 14:30-6PM Text continued:

OVERVIEW
'CEF Debates' bring together practitioners and professors to interrogate pressing issues and challenges facing events and festivals.

Modelled on Cambridge and Oxford University's method, each debate starts with a simple and provocative 'Motion' with speaker(s) split into the 'Proposition' (for) vs. 'Opposition' (against).

After Opening Statements, a lively battle of wits commence, followed by Closing Statements -- then, the 'House' (that's you -- the physical and virtual audience) votes for either side, or chooses to abstain.

And the best bit... CEF Debates not only helps tickle your intellect but also meet old friends, new faces, and broaden your network over wine, soft drinks and nibbles!

PROGRAMME
14:30 -- Registration and refreshments
15:00 -- Welcome by CEF and University of Edinburgh
15:10 --- CEF launch
15:30 -- Debate chairs introduce motion and speakers
15:40 -- Opening statements, debate, closing statements
16:40 -- House votes, results, and closing remarks
17:00-18:-- -- Social time, with food and drink.

PROPOSITION
Lyndsey Jackson, Edinburgh Fringe Festival Society
Dr Jane Ali-Knight, Edinburgh Napier University

vs.

OPPOSITION
Iain Edmondson, Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race and Legacy Delivery Ltd
Dr David McGillivray, University of the West of Scotland
