We've been going green: got a 2nd hand EV (an MG ZS) and love it! Also got solar panels and battery, so now I'm in that mode of constantly checking to see how much it's charging! (Mostly just because of the novelty).

Will update soon on how it's going, but good so far 😎

Happy faces in this PsychoPy workshop at Mapua University in Manila run by @suelynnmah.bsky.social! 🇵🇭

Sue Lynn introduced students and faculty to PsychoPy for creating psychology experiments.

We love seeing PsychoPy being used around the world! 🌏

A woman stands at the front of a computer room full of students, she presents a slide that reads “introducing PsychoPy!” A student works on a computer in a workshop, the screen displays an experiment being created in PsychoPy. A group of happy smiling students look at the camera posing after their PsychoPy workshop.

📅Sep 10, 1885 Francis Galton introduced the idea of regression (toward the mean)

(In his presidential lecture to the Anthropology Section of the British Association, perhaps the most influential such in statistical history)
Galton's figure plotting the height of children vs. the average height of their parents, titled "Rate of Regression in Hereditary stature".
Two lines are labeled: Mid-parents and Children. Labels in the plot say: When Mid-Parents are taller than mediocraty, their children tend to be shorter than they. Two photos of Francis Galton, left: in profile; right: full face, as if posing for mug shots.. These were related to Galtn's studies of criminality, now standard in police procedure.

I think we might need to make toys a @psychopy.org feature

Did you know your MacBook has a sensor that knows the exact angle of the screen hinge?

It’s not exposed as a public API, but I figured out a way to read it and make it sound like an old wooden door.

Using code for experiments and stimuli is a great visual way to learn.

I learned the majority of python from experiment design.

Very happy to have been part of this book with @dalmaijer.bsky.social @peircej.bsky.social

Let me tell you what I like about this book. The language. No, not Python, though that’s ok. The language in the delivery. It’s human. It reflects my approach to teaching (and learning!)so is familiar.
I am ok at reading code/editing/fixing but not great at writing it. This is helpful.

Regarding newer mac models, PsychoPy with PTB 3.0.19 does run fine on ARM-based macs in Rosetta mode and so far PTB has been the main limiting factor preventing us switch. But again, it would mean requiring users to pay the license fee which I think most will be looking to avoid
peircej.bsky.social
PsychoPy uses PTB as an option for keyboard input and audio in/output. No other part of PTB is code is used
For now we'll continue to ship PTB 3.0.19 ("Last free lunch") within PsychoPy Standalone. We'll be looking at 3.0.20 as an option for users with a PTB license
