October 30: Cloudflare on the podcast junket crowing about all the bugs Rust helps catch.

November 18: Cloudflare has massive outage because it failed to take advantage of exactly those safeties.

Cloudflare with Edward Wang & Kevin Guthrie — Rust in Production
How do you build a system that handles 90 million requests per second? That’s the scale that Cloudflare operates at, processing roughly 25% of all internet traffic through their global network of 330+...

This week my boss used AI to search our contract to see if certain functionality our client said we failed to provide in our RFQ. AI replied with 100% we owed it

Me not trusting AI, found the section and saw the verbage was 'recommends' but not a hard must do.

AI almost cost us 6 figures easy

No LLMs don't have feelings or awareness or anything resembling actual neurons. It's just a terrible metaphor early AI researchers used because they thought they were onto something. (they weren't)

What they said: "self driving cars will improve road safety by removing human error entirely"

What they did: Robot hit and runs
FWIW, the "Once the pedestrian had moved out of the path of the vehicle, the car pulled away" is also how a Waymo robot hit and ran a cyclist.

Once the hit cyclist got up and moved out of the way, the robot drove off. Waymo had to send someone to track it down and drive it back to the scene.

At first I thought this was an odd or even unfair summary of themes in the Supernatural series, but...

No, those are probably the two most common and fundamental tenets of the entire Supernatural universe.

While we're all dreading the pending endumbification of the future generations by AI, let's not forget the current batch of humans whose idea of a tech report involves a sponsor shout and repeating phrases like "like and subscribe."

The use of AI should be noted clearly on the cover, cover page, or ToC so readers can choose another book by an author who still writes.
