Parabolic mic, and field recorder packed away in the shed while we have a few days of bad weather. It's still picking up bird calls! #Defiant

Nocturnal Migration looks to have bumped up a notch last night over North Baddesley, with increase in Redwing and Song Thrush numbers. Moorhen a strangely regular occurrence overnight.

1 Raspberry Pi, a Zoom H1 and an Audiomoth, and 3 days of cursing.
But I now have a permanent Bird call monitor / bat detector running.
Pretty sure the Sp.Fly is false. It did pick up a bone fide Firecrest though.
Looks like a Noctule slipped past with the Pipistrelle (20khz).

Very little in the moth trap this morning, and the home-made battery LEDs don't seem to be making it until the morning, so no chance of going a little further afield just yet.

A Great Prominent on the house wall is always a fairly impressive sight though

Keyhaven and Pennington Marshes this morning. Picked out a Bar-tailed Godwit amongst Black-tailed Godwits. Plenty of Mediterranean Gulls flying East, at least 100. Plus an Osprey overhead flying North with fish. Also, 3 Sanderling.

High on numbers around Pennington, but not much out of the ordinary. The day was highlighted by some very close encounters, first with a Roe Deer just a few metres off the path, then later a Brent Goose on the footpath at Fishtail Lagoon. 9 Spoonbill, and a few Med Gulls flying over.

My first outing of 2025. Paid too much attention to the weather forecast instead of the tide tables, and missed Slavonian, Red-Necked Grebe and Lesser Yellowlegs in Lymington marsh area!
Did get a few photos of regular winter birds in the area, and my first Winter Heliotrope flower. #HantsBirds

Farmland birding near Dunbridge, Test Valley. The area had a good spell last winter with Corn Bunting, Brambling, and Goosander, but my weekend walk was low on quality. Yellowhammers seen briefly and a flock of 28 Skylark was ok. Managed pics of Linnets, Raven, and Reed Bunting.

#SouthernWater water outage affecting 70k people for 2 days now. Luckily just 2 of us home, and we had a small supply of bottled water.
Watering cans filled from the nearby stream for toilet flushing purposes. Where is the resilience? 1 failure should not wipe out water to 70k people.

Too much cloud in TestValley. Tried Michelmersh and Danebury! But something going on behind the clouds for sure last night.

Radford's Flame Shoulder the highlight of a moth trap set up at the coast near New Milton Hampshire, on Friday 4th October, 2024. Not a lot else, but this was high on my "most wanted list"!

A nice morning getting closer photos of some of the Ringed Plovers roosting at Calshot. Involved crawling over shingle, but no birds were flushed. Until a walker passed thru the flock a few minutes later. Oh well.

Still relatively quiet around Keyhaven, Pennington and Normandy. Nothing really noteworthy, but a nice bright morning for photos.

Everything's Gone Green! RSPB Pagham Harbour earlier this week, with Green Woodpecker and Emperor Dragonfly the most photogenic subjects. A Firecrest and Spotted Fly in the churchyard were more elusive, while Med Gull and Whimbrel were more distant. #UKBirding

Bright and sunny bank holiday on the Hampshire coast. Just the routine species around, but some showing well for pics, in particular Dunlin, Little Egret and Spoonbill.
