A bit of a jumble at the moment, really. Writer? Landscape. Poetry. Wrote some books about Glaciers, now writing one about Lakes. My circus, my monkeys. Haiku. Two cats and a collie. Retired UK Geography lecturer & NTF. Around 53N, 2.7W.
On my walk I saw
Two crows, the moon, Jupiter,
And the rising sun.

#FirstBirdOfMyDay #haiku #sunrise Good morning from Marbury.

Just a small selection of a few of the books that I imagine I will always return to from time to time to re-explore. #books #amreading #BookSky

After the disappointment of not liking a new novel I’m going back into my comfort zone revisiting an old friend. #BookSky #amreading #books #Proust Some books deserve revisiting over a lifetime. “Swann’s Way” and “Time Regained” are two of my stand-by favourites when I need something I can rely on.

My sky this morning
Slipping past in the canal
Under the water.

Is it just me, or are other people the same? I have maybe a dozen books that I keep going back to decade after decade, re-reading over and over again at different points in life, seeing new things each time, living in them over a lifetime like a landscape? What are yours? #BookSky #books

Starlings exploding from a tree at the back of my house this afternoon. #murmuration #ukbirding

Starlings over the village this evening. It’s the start of murmuration season. Some years they build up over a few weeks into really spectacular shows as the starlings circle prior to roosting in the reeds each evening.

Long-tailed tits just 6 foot away from me outside the living-room window!

This might have been my first-ever selfie. 1980. See alt text for more info.

Autumn is falling over everything, covering summer’s tracks.

Early morning walk.
Now the days are getting short
We go by torchlight.

The piece of chalk
With which I mark off the days
When I have done or am due to do
The fish
Is getting small.

It reminds me of my artist friend Miriam Burke who used a piece of chalk to draw a picture of the piece of chalk, so all that remains of the chalk is in its own picture.

Tomorrow we can try again, again.
Every day is New Year's Day.

My sky at dawn. Good morning from Marbury.

I'm driving home. A pheasant walks towards me up the verge and steps into the road. He stops in the middle of the carriageway. I stop and we look at each other. I want to say "you don't have to do that". He blinks, and moves to the side. I drive on. In the mirror I see him step back into the road.

There seems to have been a glitch in the matrix: I routinely get between zero and 4 interactions on anything I post here, but this week 2 posts between them generated nearly 1,000 interactions. Things are now back to normal, thank goodness. I don’t really expect anyone to be looking at what I post.

I am a dog
My life is small
And most of it
Is you.

Goldfinch, honeysuckle,
Bramble, nettle, crow.
Far away a tractor, and a flock of gulls.
A gentle breeze.
The sun, shaded for a moment by a tiny cloud.
A sleeping dog.
A butterfly.
A frog leaps into Basho’s pond.
Then silence. The sun emerges from its cloud.
I turn back to my book.

If you let one star,
however small, come too close,
It hides all the rest.
