Video game player since 1976. Likes to talk about video games from arcades to modern day. Specializes in sports video games from the past. Probably quote-posts a bit too much.
We’re exactly two weeks away from the 25th anniversary of this news story.

Other notable additions from today. The rest are sports games that few care about.

One (kinda?) big purchase I made today is something I don’t have yet— I commissioned a recapped original Xbox, as was one of my goals this year. Want to get back into that platform.

2X, baby… Tony Hawk-style.

Getting some Links 2004 on via the original Xbox and my GxTV— perhaps my favorite golf video game out there.

Here they are, all together for the first time. I’m still kind of stunned. I *never* thought I’d see one of these in the wild in 2026… let alone at a crazy good price.

Seems innocuous enough, right? A simple copy of Ridge Racer. $15.

But this is no ordinary copy. It’s a rather uncommon black label, jewel case release.

I think I might’ve just scored a pretty good deal.

Here’s what it’s like running. The nebula changes colors while stars lightly pulse.

No accurate constellations or anything like that, which is fine. Just the illusion of space. Good enough.

I got a starfield projector as a holiday gift. I find it soothing at night, if a bit bright.

I would’ve loved this as a kid.

Obviously, these will never be the arcade cabinets— but they bring me as close to the coin-ops as I could ask for without a cabinet taking up a lot of space in my basement.

Some other recent PS2 arrivals. Yes, still very sports-centric… but there’s a compilation and a couple of arcade ports, too.

I finally completed the NFL Street trilogy today.

EA Sports BIG represented.

This is a fair representation of my Nintendo console usage as a secondary option. I use my Series X far more, but the Switch 2 gets its time every so often. And Final Bar Line remains one of my favorite games. It’s been my most-played game for three years straight (2023-25).

"Sorry, but this is all we had."

Evergreen.

There’s a lot of games that qualify for this distinction, as I play a lot of different games every year and none for more than 60-90 minutes at a time.

That said, these are four that quickly sprang to mind.

My seemingly never-ending quest to fill holes in my sports video game library continues with today’s mail call.

Oh, and hello there, 🦭🦭sealed🦭🦭Syphon Filter 3 Greatest Hits.

Getting my FA-MAS on, VR Missions-style.

Coincidentally, look what I got in the mail yesterday!

Time was that you could report stuff like this and it would get taken down, and the user warned or suspended.

Now people post this shit as truth. They’ll try to reason that “It’s just my opinion!” but that’s not how opinions are written. This is a user’s statement of fact (that is fiction).

Big Bam Boom was the first of these for me, way back in 1984. I was so obsessed with “Out of Touch” (and, later, “Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid”) that I had to double-dip.

Walking into a Kindergarten/Grade 1 lunch and getting greeted by dozens of "Hey, Sonic!"s while getting and giving high-fives is easily the best part of my day today.

We'll see how it goes with Grades 2-3.
