So I finally rolled out the new peteskerritt.com website today-- moving from Wix back to WordPress. It's been a slower day in the office, so I've had some extra time to write a couple of things and get them posted.

While I can't/won't guarantee update schedules, this is where my writing will go.
Pete's Perspective
Personal gaming stories and retro game collecting from the original PlayStation to the Wii.

BlueSky user: “I guess that badge is cool, but I wish BlueSky would…”

Angry BlueSky Cheerleader: “Why? There are clients that do that already! Just use those!”

I dunno, man. This place is incredibly and defensively tribal, almost to the point of toxicity sometimes.

Saturated as it is, that Twitch hustle will never die.
📢 v1.114 is rolling out!

Today, we're expanding access to the Live Now beta to everyone.

This experimental feature lets you add a temporary LIVE badge to your avatar, helping others discover that you're currently live-streaming on Twitch. They can click it to land directly on your stream page.

I dropped hours on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tonight, restarting the Adventure mode and powering through it.

I… legit feel silly for dropping my progress on this so long ago. I found a groove tonight (despite the hella annoying Pauline challenge) and got farther than I did when the game was new.

I didn't realize that I hadn't rolled credits on the Switch version of Final Bar Line until I had done so yesterday evening. I had gotten so invested in trying to 100% each of the quests that I had overlooked the final battle and the unlocks that came with it.

One of my favorite games ever? Yeah.

Cooooooooooooooooool... BOARDERS!

(Here we go!)

I first played this via the demo included on the second OPM disc (along with Colony Wars and Madden 98). Again, a demo convinced me to buy the final version... a trend that continued for months after.
Cool Boarders 2
(PlayStation - 1997)

This was UEP Systems’ final Cool Boarders release on PlayStation, after the rights were sold to 989 Studios to continue the series.

As with any idea that becomes a hit, the ManningCast got overdone. It's on too many times per season, which drains the novelty & "special" value of the program... and overexposes it.

The Manning "schtick" feels more forced than it should. While there's still some decent analysis, it's less & less.

Just a reminder that, for every situation that people have exclaimed "He can't do that!", the King absolutely has done that... and then everyone acts shocked.
Trump says a lot of deranged shit, but, per this Reuters article — and the threats of invoking the Insurrection Act in Minnesota this morning — he is very clearly exploring how to cancel the midterms.

Neat. This mode is for me. Sometimes you just want to mow down enemies instead of messing around with battle systems. It sounds like a sweet power trip.

I got a starfield projector as a holiday gift. I find it soothing at night, if a bit bright.

I would’ve loved this as a kid.

Obviously, these will never be the arcade cabinets— but they bring me as close to the coin-ops as I could ask for without a cabinet taking up a lot of space in my basement.

Some other recent PS2 arrivals. Yes, still very sports-centric… but there’s a compilation and a couple of arcade ports, too.

I finally completed the NFL Street trilogy today.

Be *very* careful when using a site like DownDetector to draw conclusions, such as with the ongoing Verizon outage. People are speculating that it's affecting all carriers (it's not) or that we're at war? (Really?)

DownDetector is driven by user reports. Non-vetted reports.

Slow your rolls a bit.

I won't answer for everyone, because different strokes for different folks... but for *me*? Video games were unequivocally better when they were shorter-- and about best efforts/scores over "beating"/"finishing" them.

Long games are intimidating, and I only "finish" less than 0.5% of games played.
Poll time!

Yes or no...

Were #videogames better when they were shorter?

I always thought that Twisted Edge was a better name for an alcoholic beverage (like an iced tea) than a snowboarding game. Eh.

(Nintendo 64 - 1998)

Despite being announced first in 1997, Twisted Edge suffered a series of delays and unfortunately released after 1080° Snowboarding.

Weathernerdness: Operational 12z GFS run fantasizes an MLK Nor'Easter that no other 12z op runs show so far. Let's not do this, GFS. Please. If we're doing a 12"+ snow event, save it for a school day.

Fleecing Microsoft is, even for a sub-human like Kotick, pretty damned funny. The golden goose was terminal and the henhouse was already smoldering, and yet Microsoft was happy to buy the lot.
Former Activision-Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick says that console sales are at an all-time low, and Call of Duty sales are 60% down, in defence of his sale of the company to Microsoft.

This is a fair representation of my Nintendo console usage as a secondary option. I use my Series X far more, but the Switch 2 gets its time every so often. And Final Bar Line remains one of my favorite games. It’s been my most-played game for three years straight (2023-25).
January 14, 2026 at 12:23 AM
I think there’s more interest, thanks to re-releases and remasters hitting modern consoles, along with Nintendo Switch Online’s selections of emulated titles.

That said, there could be a bigger boom if modern console prices soar and players want a cheaper way to get their gaming fix.
Is retrogaming becoming more or less popular these days?

Video gaming has always been my source of escapism, with some games operating as comfort food. And, yes, most people who know me also know of my strong interest in video games.

As for the “backlog”? I consider it a “library”. I don’t typically play games to beat them— just to enjoy them.
It’s 2026. Are video games your escape, your social hangout, your comfort food, or your full-blown personality trait? And what does that BACKLOG look like?
