It was never about freedom. Bad faith actors commonly pretend to care about some lofty principle because they know their real motives stink.

Excellent example of how AI makes a truthy-sounding hash of things. These are two different current swimming records, one short course and the other long course, and Gemini has completely invented a false narrative connecting them.

Excellent thread on the pitfalls of generative AI and some reasonably good speculation on why some people find it so compelling
If you know me, you know what I think of gen AI - it can automate some tasks and write decent code but can only ultimately rephrase the Internet.

Yesterday I was (lazy/time-poor) so I tried Cerebras' Llama-3.1 interface.

I think this is quite illustrative of gen AI chain-of-thought 🧵

The teachers at my kids' school have completely drummed in the idea that "Wikipedia can't be trusted", meanwhile they believe whatever nonsense some kid on the bus says. Yay for nuanced source criticism.
Me in 2004, teaching 10th graders: For the love of god don't cite Wikipedia, it's not a reliable source

Me in 2024, to literally anyone in earshot: Good ol' Wikipedia, the only thing the internet hasn't fucked up yet

I'm no great political theorist, but seems like allowing the president to pardon anyone he wants is a bit of a dumb idea that could have some pretty obviously dumb consequences.

Not a good take, IMO. I'm not looking for an echo chamber, i like to understand all viewpoints. But X has become an awful place which artificially boosts the most awful people. Bluesky can be better than that without being biased.
Opinion - The problem with Bluesky: It won’t broaden our horizons: In the wake of Donald Trump’s election win, the social-media platform has enjoyed a surge of new users looking for an alternative to Elon Musk’s X. But will it be useful, if it just creates an echo chamber for the left?
