My favorite example:

Tasawaq (northern Songhay, Niger) originally had yo "camel", yoyo "camels" (yo is a plural marker)

yoyo became a singular.

So now we have yoyo "camel" and yoyoyo "camels"

Today in “Arabic dialects don’t come from classical Arabic”. Several dialects have a pronominal -t ending, e.g., Egyptian an-nās dōlat, “those/these people”. This, afaik, isn’t attested in classical Arabic but is found in several other Semitic languages. This feature thus didn't come from MSA.

A 3,300 year-old Egyptian-Akkadian vocabulary from Amarna, with Egyptian words written in cuneiform

ši-na-aḫ=šnꜥ (unit of weight)

pa-ḫa-tu₄=pꜣ ḥꜥtj (the bed)
Copy of tablet fragment EA 368, with several lines of cuneiform script on both sides. Egyptian words are transliterated into cuneiform syllables, followed by a translation into Akkadian, which has been lost in many lines.

A tome of about 850 pages, Stefan Bruweleit's "The Verbal Systems of Aramaic", lies on a table. The cover is in Brill's HdO series's signature style, with green and white elements on a black background, as well as "in Aramaic" in the middle of the cover in yellow Estrangela Syriac script.

Been reading about Elamite a bit more due to the UChicago debacle, and the wikipedia article (citing Ávarez-Mon et al 2018) says "The Acts of the Apostles (c. 80–90 AD) mentions the language as if it was still current. There are no later direct references". Elamite experts please weigh in, because..

The ways in which Jews conceive of politics were developed in Eastern Europe at the turn of the century; the great ideologies of Zionism, Bundism, socialism, and liberal- ism were all responses to the increasing impotence of the Jews of Europe, an impotence that culminated in the Holo- caust. Although some of these ideologies no longer exist and others have changed drastically, they remain the vocabulary of Jewish politics. Today, these forms of discourse appear increasingly irrelevant in the light of the achievement of Jewish sovereignty in Israel and the relative political power of the Jewish Diaspora in the West, especially in the United States. In both Israel and the Diaspora, a new political lan- guage is only beginning to emerge, a language for under- standing both the possibilities and the limitations of Jewish political power in the modern world.
