The FID can be used to impersonate commanders in game. That, plus an IP address, can be used to determine someone's identity.

I've had friends doxed by the people who developed EDRecon. So my risk assessment is much higher, quite frankly.

There's also the FID at the bottom of Elite's splash screen, which is the specific FID I'm talking about.

Also: Frontier CAPI is *entirely optional* for EDDiscovery and other third-party apps. For MetaElite, it is not. You cannot opt out of sending your FID to MetaElite.

That's categorically untrue. Case in point, my "Frontier ID" on Inara is six-digit numeric. My FID *in Eltie* is seven-digit alphanumeric.
