Today I replaced the worst looking caps I've ever seen on a graphics card

The internet said Windows RAID often performs better. Sure enough, after setting up a new software RAID array, I've never hit speeds this high before! (and this is copying off of a USB 3.0 external backup drive)

So apparently Windows RAID > built in motherboard RAID (in my case AMD-RAIDXpert2)

I thought having hardware RAID would perform better. Nope! Writing files to the array was excruciatingly slow, dropping down to the single-digit MB/s at times, or stalling altogether.

....my old Audio-Technica mic that cost me $60 in 2014, sounds better than the upgrade just by plugging it via XLR to a proper interface and mounting it in a more optimal position?

Why is it I spent two months researching, and considerable YT monies on a major mic upgrade, only to find out...

Oh AND the shirt is reflecting on the glass instruments on the table, which means it was filmed on set??

Reminds me of when I recieved a card like this. Somehow it still worked. I've had cards packed in 17 layers of bubble wrap and a sturdy box arrive more broken than this intrepid thing.

My main GPU display shelf now has an area focused on pioneering 3D accelerators from 1996.

I originally had a PCX2 on the left, but that one is from 97, so I put a PCX1 in its place for consistency. Not really on par with the other two, but that's just how it was in 96 before 3dfx broke the mold

Reminds me of the old 90s ATI splash screen. Blew my mind lol

haha no you won't

Finally found a loose Keno for a reasonable price. So satisfying to finally be able to complete my TMNT II: Secret of the Ooze NECA fig display ☺️

Sweet! Got my "recording booth" fully set up now!

Basically my film table is serving double duty now, and because the monitor is 4:3, it's also perfect for testing retro graphics cards on my open testbed.

Now I just need a microphone upgrade. 🤔
September 11, 2025 at 5:30 PM
Hm? Oh it's nothing, just an official 2025 Atari-published game for a console from 1986
September 11, 2025 at 4:42 PM
Ugh yeah that sounds miserable. It sucks to spend substantial money just to get back something you already had.

I'm in the process of turning my film desk into a recording booth. My hope is all recordings will use the same good mic for more consistency. Had no idea my timing was so appropriate!

Modern day Playmates Toys has a lot of issues, but when they do right, credit where credit's due.

This remastered pack fixes all the issues of the previous release, no orange peel skin, correct faces, and way better matching colors to the vintage ones than any other modern re-release.

Got my money

Not mine, but a fresh image taken this evening by a friend of mine.
Very cool GPU shot of an engineering sample of NVIDIA's first 'true' flagship PCI Express card, the GeForce 6800 Ultra.
Notice the prominent 'NV45' moniker. No such marking on the final version:

Yep, that was it. It was the discs I was using. Found this random stack of blank CDRs at a Goodwill today and they work like a charm!

I finally recapped my Sega Genesis CDX today, but I can't for the life of me burn a copy of Doom CD32X Fusion, or any Sega CD game, that works. I even found a burner drive in my stash that works at 4x.

Maybe it's the media I have. I'm using Verbatim discs but I might buy some from Maxwell.
