Coincidently, I got my hands on a variant of this chip this week: the AM9080AD1B (a military grade variant of the 9080 made in 1977). An interesting piece of silicon history for sure!

So apparently Windows RAID > built in motherboard RAID (in my case AMD-RAIDXpert2)

I thought having hardware RAID would perform better. Nope! Writing files to the array was excruciatingly slow, dropping down to the single-digit MB/s at times, or stalling altogether.
