It looks a little as if it is playing a video rather than an animated gif (different controllers showing, a countdown like on vids)

So could that be it? Somehow it’s a vid rather than a gif?

I’m currently at a Costa which has comfy chairs and low key easy listening music in the background, which is just right for me.

I feel the pain of trying to work somewhere with the sound turned way up though. Nightmare.

Back in August several academics raised concerns that a Deloitte report to government may have been generated using AI. Deloitte denied this and put the citation errors down to poor editing.

Anyway, Deloitte are refunding the government $440,000 for a report that was written using AI.

IIRC 1e Traveller had a 'backgammon' element to damage too, in that you had to take damage in discrete dice. So if someone attacked you and did 2d6 damage and rolled a 6 and a 1, you had to remove a 6 and a 1 from your abilities. Could force you to be incapacitated earlier than if you divide any way

Nice write-up. One of the distinctions between D&D and RQ was abstract hit points vs physical hit points. I always liked the physical hit point systems better!

Another early variant was Traveller. You took damage not to hit points but to your strength, endurance and dexterity.

I wonder how many organisations there are that are still blind to the adverse impact of using genAI? If they hear marketing peeps saying 'look how quick' and it being built into office suites and phones?

People who are art engaged here are very aware of the problems. General public? I don't know?

as a girl with a PhD in natural language processing and machine learning it's actually offensive to me when you say "we don't know how LLMs work so they might be conscious"

I didn't spend 10 years in mines of academia to be told ignorance is morally equal knowledge.

We know exactly how LLMs work.
