Plastic Man Daily Panels!

In this thread I will be sharing 4 panels from a Plastic Man story every day until I can’t any more! From the Golden Age to now, it’ll be bits of Plas throughout history!

The Power Of Shazam! (1995) 21

Art by Peter Krause

I’d love to see more Plastic Man and Captain Marvel/Shazam team ups. It only makes sense!
I’m also realizing that it’s in this era that Plastic Man is treated as a very comedic hero and a weirdo to the other supers. I’m mixed on that.
Plastic Man spins Captain Marvel around and shoots him out like a pinball, until knocking the big red cheese over! When trying to save the life of one “Muscles” McGuinnes, Plastic Man casually reveals his old identity as Eel O’Brian to him to calm him down, without even knowing Muscles had gone straight. Muscles is shocked, especially because everyone thought Eel was dead.
I LOVE this. Plas being so removed from his life as Eel that he just reveals it is so casually is a great beat. That he dropped it so completely that people think he’s dead is something I adore too. Wish it happened more often. In a bit that might be the first time a The Mask reference was given to Plas, he’s flattened like a pancake, then lifts himself up. Plas bounces into the scene the best way he knows how: dramatically!

On my way to New York for #NYCC. Don't forget to stop by Table B+01 in Artist Alley to say hello. I'll have prints and original comic book page art for sale, as well as copies of #YoungJustice: Targets while supplies last. I have a very limited number of slots on my list for commission sketches.

Superman (1987) 110

Art by Ron Frenz

I liked this, especially the coloring and the action. But it also contains probably the first real “Plas is dirty” joke, and despite it being a one-time quick gag that no one would’ve remembered if it weren’t for other writers, this means I have to hate it. /j
Plas talks to Jimmy Olsen… who has a very goofy cartoony look about him. Unfortunately, it’s a bit uncanny. This would’ve been a perfect spot for simpler colors to emphasize the cartoony nature, because with colors that match the rest of the book, it just doesn’t look right. Woozy has to deal with his landlord, Mr. BigButt, which is a shoutout to Buckaroo Banzai! I actually asked the writers on Twitter if it was a shoutout, which they confirmed. Plas offers the gorgeous Treasure Hunt a chair… which is made of him… and his face is the seat. It’s, in my opinion, a little mitigated in that Plas was using himself as a chair for Woozy. A gorgeous shot of Superman flying over Metropolis at night, the stars beaming behind him. His body also acts as the panel barrier, so we see him flying over Metropolis, and spotting a bright red S signal in the sky.

The most you get is that he was like 15 when he got his powers, and still acted like a kid

I was talking with @comradebullski.bsky.social about doing an amalgam costume of The Phantom and Phantom Lady, and then I realized it would just be Catwoman’s old dress costume
