Portland: Neighbors Welcome urges City Council to reject the proposed camping ban ordinance. Portland must embrace housing first strategies that offer dignity and respect to our most vulnerable neighbors. Let's house all our neighbors, together.
Graphic from Portland Neighbors Welcome with text:

We urge Portland City Council:
Reject the Camping Ban Ordinance

"Cities and countries that embraced housing-first have achieved remarkable success in reducing homelessness in humane, sustainable ways. Portland can do the same. These programs do not just move people off the street, they keep them housed. Housing-first strategies are more humane, cost-effective, and offer dignity and respect to those facing the violence of poverty."
Let's house all our neighbors, together.

We need to reimagine what our community looks like for Portland to have housing that meets the needs of every neighbor, at all ages wages and stages of life. Our grassroots effort to legalize four floors + corner stores in Portland’s most central, walkable neighborhoods is a step in that direction.

proud of my friend @wutherering.bsky.social for getting this quote in the @oregonian.com's write up of this morning's rally for @pnwelcome.bsky.social's Inner Eastside for All campaign:

www.oregonlive.com/business/202...
Several dozen members of pro-housing group Portland: Neighbors Welcome held a brief demonstration outside City Hall, fueled by coffee and doughnuts, to advocate the reforms before heading into council chambers, where the five-member Climate, Resilience and Land Use Committee discussed what zoning changes might look like someday.

Such changes, proponents say, would allow apartments with corner stores on the inner east side and support local leaders’ efforts to alleviate the city’s affordability crisis.

“We want, basically, nice homes for people that are a much lower price,” said Heidi Hart, Portland: Neighbors Welcome board member, outside City Hall.
