The Work. Never. Ends. Humanity is (hopefully!!) stuck here forever, and while we're here we have to help each other. And that means fixing broken systems, then our kids fix it again, then their kids fix it again. Looked at cynically, we're all Sisyphus.

But one must imagine Sisyphus happy.

Yeah this is kinda the best way to put it. You wouldn't let your dog vote in elections or anything but you also would protect it from harm because it's alive and feels pain.

Honestly as a Lucas purist this is kinda the best smackdown of Filoni's vision for Star Wars that you could offer: it's a Saturday morning cartoon version of the real thing. Yeah Anakin is actually cool now, he doesn't whine as much and he has better one-liners, sure he does bud.

There's a meta argument to be made that the depiction of battle droids in the clone wars cartoon (depiction of a lot of things in the clone wars cartoon tbh) isn't actually how it was "for real", it's basically filtered through a wartime propaganda lens, like how every episode opens with a newsreel.

I mean to be fair they also treat Han like he doesn't have a soul sometimes
politiburb.bsky.social
well the fact that he gets the month wrong is also indicative of some things

I think if it took you to October 5th, 2025 to realize that maybe this 1/6/21 business was maybe a big deal I think you shouldn't be allowed to comment on politics

rarely have I wanted to know who this is more than I do now

Reading that in Werner Herzog voice

You would think so but I think we're going to keep on pretending ar least until It Happens, his life force is like a magical barrier keeping the realization from setting in

Well that sure is a data point!

JUST IN: The Republican Mayor of Fairbanks, Alaska’s second biggest city, lost re-election last night to a Democrat.

Mayor David Pruhs is a conservative who fought protections for LGBTQ+ residents; he made comments this year drew condemnation this year from Alaska Natives. He lost to Mindy O'Neall.

smh this is Skippy The Jedi Droid erasure

Well I mean the thing about it is that it's laughably wrong. My own take is arguable, but what that guy said is just farce.
politiburb.bsky.social
I would kinda argue that in Star Wars the droids are mostly good and the heroes do mostly treat them as people, with a few exceptions like Obi-Wan who was always had a slight luddite sensibility. But Luke seemed to think R2 was a person more or less imo

Lee Greenwood will be 83 years old at the end of this month. He has not released a studio album in 22 years, and has not released any album that cracked the top 30 on the U.S. country charts in 37 years.

lmao this dolt is beyond parody.
yeah Lee Greenwood, totally appealing to all audiences. you nailed it buddy

spotting this take in the wild is like a being a 31 flavors employee seeing someone order a single vanilla cone, you *know* it's the most popular one for a reason but it's still kinda shocking to actually see it happen for real

I believe they were referring to people residing in Canada, not Canadian born people who are American citizens

The government is shut down because Trump and the Republicans are hellbent on taking health care away from you.

And they won’t even come to the table to talk to us about it.

This is not about politics. It's about people.

Let’s break it down:

i love this fucking city, i have been here ten years and if i am lucky, i will get at least another ten or twenty, but, today, this city made a fucking fool of the entire department of homeland security.

It never fails to enrage me how, by and large, the Democrats genuinely try to embody honesty in politics, but because the American public believes dishonesty in politics is a fait accompli they never give the Democrats any credit for it.

What a lot of the terminally online posters bemoaning the collapse of the US led global order overlook is that its largely impossible for anyone in Europe to truly replace US leadership because of the fact that EU leadership can be such a clusterfuck in itself.
politiburb.bsky.social
Say what you will about the rise of the far right in recent US/European history and whether one is worse or not, the US is indisputably better positioned to fight and beat ours back because we're kinda the only ones left with a liberal/left-leaning party that isn't utterly moribund at this point.

Europeans fight about racism less than Americans, people assume that must mean they're less racist. Almost the exact opposite of the correct inference.

NEW: I spoke to clergy and faith leaders who've joined protests at the Chicago-area ICE facility.

Three say they've been shot with pepper balls, sometimes while praying.

All say ICE is also violating their religious freedom, and one is arguing it in court. religionnews.com/2025/10/07/i...
Religious protesters say ICE threatens religious freedom in Chicago

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.
