Happy winter solstice! If you are looking for some wintery erotica, I have some! On Kindle only, I’m in the brand new “Season’s Spice” (free to read with KU!) & last year’s “Season’s Teasings” with my Erotic Celebrations pals, and my solo collection, “Polly Jolly Christmas” is available everywhere.

#Smutcember I have two of these, and they both meant the stories were fundamentally different from the ones I’d originally intended. Amber and Drew were supposed to wind up together in “Swelter in Place” but I struggled to finish that novella, and eventually realized the only way out was for Drew...
Today's #Smutcember prompt:

Are there any characters you wanted to get together, but couldn’t get it to work? What do you do when the chemistry just isn't clicking?

Intrigued by the possibility of books that can be filed under dirigibles OR erotica.

(I guess that’s just smexy steampunk smut, but I LIKE smexy steampunk. So.)

#Smutcember as I think we’ve already established ;->, I usually get my characters going pretty quickly. But here’s a bit from “High Proof” where Mike and Pete, lost in the woods, would like to go farther. Snippet follows; CW for discussion of fantasies, foreplay, salty language
Time for yet another #Smutcember Snip Share!

This week, share an "Almost" Moment - a near kiss, an interrupted entanglement, a tease...

Remember to label and tag your snip images and posts appropriately, use alt text, and have fun!

#Smutcember Only twice. Once it was because the theme of the book shifted in response to real world events: “Swelter in Place” was originally intended to be fluffy and light hearted. Despite being anchored in the pandemic, it started as a joke: “Oh no, a succubus in lockdown! Whatever shall she do?”
Happy Friday, #Smutcember!

Have you ever been surprised by which of your characters hook up? Has a planned romance ever been derailed by chemistry that developed while drafting?

Don’t make me choose #Smutcember I want the whole toolbox. Obviously touch, taste, and smell are the ones that more literal media can’t incorporate. I do think of taste and smell as powerful seasonings to be applied with restraint—it can take me out of a scene if it’s unrealistic or, sometimes...
Time to get sensual, #Smutcember:

What is your favorite sense to rely on when describing sexy scenes? How do you like to engage with multiple senses throughout?

#Smutcember I think I have two broad categories - for my more romantic erotica, the sex “seals the deal” (maybe not all at once if there’’s more than one open door scene) - often focus shifts a from a character’s own pleasure to mutual pleasure or even a hint of service top in the dynamic—
Onward through the mid-month, mid-week slump, #Smutcember:

How do your characters view their relationships changing before and after sex? What factors are influencing this change? Is there one big change, or many smaller incremental ones over time?

#Smutcember I love, love, love playing with POV! I write a mix of first and close-third. I never head-hop, and I have some stories that stay in one POV all the way through, but I do sometimes switch perspective at a section break, and I have a few stories with five or more POVs. Why I love it:
Today's #Smutcember prompt:

How do you handle perspectives in sexy scenes? Do you focus on one POV at a time or switch around?

#Smutcember My first instinct is to say I write erotica, so everything is open door all the time. But that’s not really true. In “Fuck the Rich” I wanted enough detail to establish the level of debauchery at the Marchioness's garden party, but Gail is an onlooker for most of it, so it’s a bit ...
Today's #Smutcember prompt:

How do you decide how “far” to take a scene in a written work? Do you have varying levels based on certain factors?

#Smutcember in Spicy Telepath Tales, Cinna is a space-based superhero, and Syrasil is an alien from a former-enemy planet who’s nursed a longtime crush on her. Syrasil is awed by Cinna’s moral principles, and Cinna is turned on by Syrasil’s bold playfulness, but their mutual vulnerability is what—

#Smutcember here’s a saucy snippet from a WIP. Cerion, who’s from a very repressed secondary world, is remembering/fantasizing how he used to visit a notorious bathhouse to hook up with random men when he was around 30. CW for salty language and a teeny smidge of age gap fetishization & DS roleplay

I’ve learned that scifi writer John Varley has passed away. His “Eight Worlds” stories, in which characters could change gender on a whim, as often as they liked, was a profound influence on the probably-too-young-to-read-them person who’d eventually grow up and adopt the pseudonym Polly Liticat.

#Smutcember I like to have my cake and eat it too. 😈 I almost always feature a new relationship; maybe that’s a bit lazy, but I think having something novel for my characters helps keep things novel for my readers. BUT I have a lot of fun bringing new partners to established relationships, too!
Happy Friday, #Smutcember folks!

Do you prefer to write sex scenes for a new relationship, or in an established one? What appeals to you the most about your preference?

#Smutcember “corrupted innocence” doesn’t really count does it? 👿 I do love a good enemies-to-lovers. I have a literal “probably kill you in the morning” vibe in “To Stone Turned,” business rivals in “Frozen Conflict,” and a Santa/Krampus matchup (also grumpy/sunshine!) in “Kramping, His Style.”
#Smutcember prompt for today:

Share your favorite self-indulgent pairing or dynamic! Grumpy/sunshine? Battle couple? Something more niche and specific? If you like, tell us about how you've employed it in your work!

#Smutcember I’ve been fortunate to find several supportive communities & editors to help me improve my writing. If I have any advice, I’d say do whatever you need to to make a firewall between your “real” life and your writer self, because I think the most important thing is sharing with people /1
#Smutcember for Hump Day asks:

Do you struggle with sharing your smutty writing? If so, what internal or external obstacles have been the most challenging? If not, what advice would you give someone who's struggling but wants to share their work?

#Smutcember YES. Sometimes I like to linger over build up, and sometimes I like to dive right in, depending on the tone. I think aftercare is often given short shrift in erotica, but I think it’s a great opportunity to define it as romantic (especially if there was kink/roleplay involved).
Our #Smutcember prompt for today asks:

When writing sex in your stories, do you prefer to write the build up, the act itself, the aftercare, or all of the above?

LOL #Smutcember by erotica standards, I often write slow burns, which is to say 4-5 pages before things get smexy. ;-> But I work mostly in novelette/long short story territory, so very fast indeed compared to a novel’s pace. (Some of my characters have already been pre-pining when we meet them tho)
Merry Monday, #Smutcember!

In your stories, do you prefer a slow burn or fast feelings? What appeals to you the most about writing your preferred pacing?

#Smutcember it’s situational, but I’ll admit to having several characters whose eyes might initially be caught by legs or a butt. But not the SAME legs/butt. I’m aware of the trend to not describe physical attributes too exactly so readers can project themselves into the story and I rebel against it
To wrap our first week of #Smutcember, tell us:

What do your characters find *physically* attractive about each other? (We'll get into the more intangible traits later.)

#Smutcember 1st kiss context: Mary and Delia, co-workers committed to pretending to hate each other, have shared an unexpected dinner and now are on an unexpected red-eye flight. They’ve been dozing. Mary woke from an erotic dream, and in the restroom chewed “a couple breath mints. Just in case.”
