Coastal communities have a lot of challenges and opportunities in common. So working together enables us to achieve more and succeed. I am calling for a “Coastal Challenge” to break down the barriers to opportunities for our young people.

Proud to sign this. Kemi Badenoch is turning her party against the future.

For ~20yrs the Climate Change Act has powered clean growth & climate action

Proud to co-ordinate 124 MPs & Peers to urge the Conservatives, don’t scrap it

Turning climate leadership into a political football puts our economy, security & children’s future at risk

Last nights interim published figures of CLP nominations for Deputy Leader are very encouraging for Lucy Powell. With 221 to 140, that’s 61%.

Final nominations will be known tomorrow but this shows clear support from members from the length and breadth of the country.

Today is a truly historic moment fulfilling a long held commitment of the Labour Party to recognise Palestine in order to progress peace on the Middle East. Now we need a ceasefire, the release of the hostages, an end to the bombardment and invasion and an agreement to start talking.

Labour is at its best when we are clear about whose side we are on, and in whose interests we serve, when our values shine through.

I want us to be clear that our objective is to lift children out of poverty and that will mean we need to lift the 2 child benefit cap www.mirror.co.uk/news/politic...
Labour should consider hiking gambling tax to fight child poverty, Powell says
Deputy leadership hopeful Lucy Powell said Gordon Brown's proposal to hike gambling tax to fund axing the two-child benefit limit should get 'careful consideration'

And as ever, despite its weird anachronisms and conventions, MT manages to encapsulate vital elements of the human condition when facing war and death

I am delighted to have nominated my good friend and colleague Lucy Powell as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party. I know she will use her skill and experience to be a bridge to link the membership and the leadership for progressive change. Unity and hope.

"Sadiq Khan’s fightback against the monstering of London by Britain’s Outer Right of Faragists, fascists and the fouler kind of Conservative has received a boost in the form of figures showing there were fewer homicides...over the summer months of 2025 than in any year since 2018."
The Right's 'lawless London' slur is under challenge
The downward trend in homicides and some violent crime stats should be cautiously but loudly welcomed

The announcement by the Prime Minister is an historic one and it gives hope to the Palestinians: and end to their immediate suffering and the beginnings of statehood.
For months I have been urging the UK to recognise a Palestinian state, so the announcement by the Prime Minister that the UK will do so at the UN General Assembly in September is a momentous one. I strongly welcome this decision, and the Prime Minister’s affirmation that Hamas must disarm and accept it will have no role in the governing of Gaza.
It has been clear for some time that Israel has no interest in ending the war in Gaza, getting aid in, returning to negotiations to get the remaining hostages freed, ending settlement expansion and settler violence, or committing to a two-state solution. In response to the UK’s announcement, Israel have affirmed they have no intention of seeking a long-term peace. It is Israel’s actions that have left the UK – along with France – with no choice but to push for recognition now while there is still a Palestine left to recognise.
I know recognition alone will not be enough to end the appalling suffering and human misery in Gaza. But the UK has now demonstrated to Israel that we will not stand by and allow this horror to continue.
In the coming weeks and months, I will continue to urge the government to go further and faster in its actions to end this appalling war and secure the sustainable peace that has eluded us for so long.

Reform UK can't just go around writing unhinged letters threatening investors with reprisals for growing our green economy and creating good, well-paid jobs. Here's my response and the questions they need to answer - signed by 58 Labour MPs.
