Nope, although the Derby was very pretty. Hatch still prettier, though. And my Coupé S did wear a very period Zender body kit – which later appeared on the UK 'Designer' special – and Wolfrace alloys, so it was a little different. Happy days. #Volkswagen #Polo

Interesting, will have a watch. SGS did a rather elaborate Polo Targa, too, based on the MkII breadvan. Unsure if it was a one-off or not, but a fascinating curio nonetheless. #Volkswagen #Polo

Scanning the cars for sale websites during the week and came across this gem. A #Polo GL from 1999, with a 1.6-litre, 75bhp engine (not very friendly for VED vs performance/costs, sadly), but a sunroof, a later #VW radio unit, and only 16,000 miles. £6000. Lovely. www.carandclassic.com/l/C1970972

Interestingly (to me anyway!), is that Japan didn't get the Polo Original until 2017, two years later than Germany, and the car didn't come to the UK at all… Japan did get its own Polo '40th Edition' in 2015, though, but that car was nowhere as unique as the Original. #Volkswagen #VW #Polo #Polo50

Other differentiating elements of the #Polo Original included 'Splender'-patterned sports seats (essentially orange and grey-black houndstooth, referencing the original Polo N), 'Moon Stone'-painted centre console trim, 'Original' door sill trims, and a 'Rear View' parking system. #VW #Polo50

So, 2025 marks the Polo's 50th birthday and #VW has created the 'Edition 50' to mark it. Ten years ago, the #Polo 'Original' celebrated the model's 40th birthday. Special features included Honey Orange Metallic paint (a CrossPolo shade), 'Original' badges, LED lights and 'Portago' alloys.

That one was a nice find. I saw it at the Simply VW at Beaulieu show back in May, and thought it would be a good fit. Lovely car, 59,000 miles, one owner from new!
I had one for almost 10 years. Loved it. Clean lines, fun interior, good build, and quick-ish. Written off in 2021. #VWPolo #Polo50

It’s not every day you get to display your car at the prestigious Pall Mall in London, but yesterday my Polo took its place alongside VW UK heritage press fleet and other owner cars as part of the St James’s Motoring Spectacle 50th anniversary #VWPolo display. We even enjoyed some sun! #Polo50
