I wrote this story because the case of the Guatemalan children hasn’t received nearly as much media attention as it deserves.

I wanted to highlight the full extent of the government’s depraved conduct.

I hope you’ll read and share. Don’t look away.

www.lawfaremedia.org/article/the-...

But on the morning of Aug. 31, as the bus made its way to the airport, A.R.M.D. worried that he would be returned to Guatemala without the opportunity to make his case in court.
Sharing his anxiety were other Guatemalan children who, like A.R.M.D., had been roused from bed in the middle of the night at their respective foster homes or care facilities. At a children's shelter in McAllen, Texas, one young.girl "was so scared that she vomited and asked to speak with a clinician." Another teenager, who said that her sister was murdered in Guatemala last year, worried that she, too, would be killed if she returned. Other potential deportees cited personal histories involving family violence, sexual abuse, or human trafficking as reasons why they were afraid to return to their home country.
In theory, the law is supposed to protect unaccompanied children from being summarily whisked out of the country by the government.

This SPSP #MemberMonday, explore research from @jinxungoh.bsky.social examining how racial groups perceive competition between Asian Americans and Black Americans. The study reveals complex patterns that may affect intergroup relations and coalition building.

"How can you be that ignorant?"

What we need to hear from elites more often about the unbridled bad-faith and shockingly stupid arguments put forth by Trumpists

WARNER: Do you accept the fact that 1 million Americans died from covid?

RFK Jr: I don't know how many died

W: You're the secretary of health and human services. You don't have any idea how many Americans died from covid?

RFK Jr: I don't think anybody knows that

W: How can you be that ignorant?

Well, APSA is around the corner, and while everything is going to shit (genocide and dismantling of US of A democracy)... We can at least find an excuse to dance and relax.

Can someone explain to me why TikTok is still not banned in this country despite the bipartisan bill enacted into law and the SCOTUS upholding the law?

Did I miss something since Trump promised to get a deal with TikTok?

I keep saying this but it remains true: Dems have not learned the central lesson of Reconstruction, that multiracial democracy cannot survive when those working to overthrow the rule of law & fair elections are allowed to operate with impunity.

the problem for Ds right now is not winning elections. they are doing fine at winning elections.

the problem is what happens *between elections.* as in, if you don't fight fascism between elections, election outcomes start not to matter. 1

In the end, we’re going to have to make some choices about what R1 universities are: institutions of higher learning, pure inquiry, and broad-based research or money machines that blow in the wind with donors and the latest trends. Only one path is viable long term, in my opinion.

The hits keep coming. “The departments that won’t be accepting Ph.D. students now include art history, cinema and media studies, classics, comparative literature, East Asian languages and civilizations, English language and literature, Germanic studies, linguistics, Middle Eastern studies…”
More UChicago Ph.D. Programs Will Pause Admissions
The arts and humanities dean said “nearly all” faculty leaders preferred “a broader pause for the division.” Some social sciences programs also aren’t accepting new students.

It would be very cool if people who a) like the idea of free online tax filing that is not a bait-and-switch from a private vendor and b) support an innovative tool that users loved, would respond to these surveys.
donmoynihan.substack.com/p/the-death-...
Users loved Direct File. In 2024, 86% of users said it increased their trust in IRS, not the most beloved of organizations. The Direct File “net promoter score” (a measure of customer satisfaction and loyalty) is 84, well above that of TurboTax, and even Apple. In user surveys conducted by Code for America, 94% prefer Direct File and state equivalents to their previous filing method and 84% said they were “very satisfiedˮwith another 14% being “satisfied” with the product.
