The week after that: we return to King's Landing for A Feast for Crows, Cersei V, in which Cersei's day is so bad that even Tommen is annoying her.

This week in Westeros, Sansa has to play Littlefinger's daughter "Alayne Stone" as he manipulates the Lords of the Vale into backing down, all to offer her an object lesson in the game of thrones. Our episode is up for everyone!

Currently on a re-read binge and just noticed how Lame Lother Frey was first introduced as athe Stranger in the series (the Hoster funeral in ASOS):

Frodo wakes. ‘Where am I?’

‘In the House of Elrond. It is ten o’clock in the morning. The morning of October the twenty-fourth, if you want to know.’

‘Gandalf!’

‘Yes, I am here. And you are lucky to be here, too, after all the absurd things you have done since you left home.’

1. The Mysterious Voyage of Homer
2. Homer the Heretic
3. Marge v the Monorail
4. Kamp Krusty
5. Last Exit to Springfield
If I had to pick Best 5 I’d go:

1. Bart’s Comet
2. Who Shot Mr Burns Pt 1
3. Homie the Clown
4. Marge vs the Monorail
5. Lemon of Troy

Not necessarily my favorite 5 episodes, but probably the best in terms of joke density, animation quality, and story.

I really do think “Bart’s Comet” is the single best Simpsons episode. Some of the best gags, tremendous animation, leverages the entire Springfieldianite cast, and has a nice touching ending (except for Ned’s children who should be deeply ashamed of themselves)

In "Ignition (Remix)," they're listening to a song on the radio, which turns out to be "Ignition (Remix)"
Another thing about Monster Mash is that Monster Mash isn't even the song you're actually listening to, it's a song about another song/dance, it's like Tenacious D's Tribute
Even Monster Mash isn't *explicitly* about Halloween. Bing Crosby's The Headless Horseman directly discusses Halloween and is pretty underrated, though

Shadow Ticket is so great. Thinking it'll replace Inherent Vice/Vineland as my recommended intro to Pynchon. Streamlines all his pet themes/tones/images into their most accessible form

Favorite part of Shadow Ticket so far is how it builds on all the "there's submarines hidden in the Great Lakes" rumors I was told as a wee Buffalo boy

Magellan is fantastic, it was wonderful to see a slow-cinema insta-classic and then dissect everything that was shown and not shown with my brother afterwards. What else are film festivals for? Support @phillyfilmsociety.bsky.social if you're in town

This week in Essos, Arya starts her education at Murder University. It's a dreamy, abstract chapter, but it's grounded in ritual and routine, and finds catharsis when Arya refuses to sacrifice Needle (and all that goes with it) to the god of death. Our episode is up for everyone!
