Converting microwave photons to visible is NOT TRIVIAL. You need sophisticated experimental equipment and a medium that can absorb microwave and emit visible light, such as a gas of atoms, a doped crystal, or a microresonator, plus the right lasers. Glasses that could do the job would be a big deal!
"It's a sort of science toy we made for the Capital Planetarium. With our current level of technology, we could take the six-meter horn an-tenna used by Penzias and Wilson almost half a century ago to dis-cover the cosmic microwave background and miniaturize it to the size of a pair of glasses. When the lab director saw Wang, he hurried over and began to report a series of malfunctions with the main reaction chamber-a recent ritual whenever Wang arrived at work. By now the main reaction cham-ber had been in continuous operation for more than a year, and many sensors had lost sensitivity, resulting in measurement errors that re-quired shutting down the apparatus for maintenance. But as the lead scientist on the project, Wang insisted that the machine would not be shut down until the third set of molecular combinations was fin-ished. The technicians had no choice but to jury-rig more and more kludges onto the main reaction chamber to compensate. And now those kludges required their own kludges, a state of affairs that exhausted the project staff.

No! That's not what those results imply!! Whether physics is the same across the universe and across time is currently unknown! It's a good guess that they are invariant, but we don't know! There are real experiments in labs that are trying to measure if fundamental constants are drifting!

This WIP is set in a bronze age river trading empire. Cultural inspiration comes from ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Mediterranean, etc. There is a Polynesian-inspired location and culture as well, and a nomadic steppe people.
