It's cool to know you an do an exacutive order to undo all prior executive orders... Just a thing I am thinking about
I was wondering what Mamdani's first executive order would be, and I'm not disappointed by this.

He has wiped off the books EVERY Eric Adams executive order issued on or after September 26, 2024, the day Adams was indicted on federal bribery charges.

I also wrote a lot about libraries last year, and will continue to this year, as they're needed more than ever and are also being flooded with AI slop. This story resulted in a ton of AI books being removed from online libraries: www.404media.co/ai-generated...

Librarians say that taxpayers are already paying for low quality AI-generated ebooks in public libraries.

Silicon Valley and the Trump administration are betting the entire American economy on the continued growth of AI, a mission that’ll require spending billions of dollars on datacenters and new energy infrastructure.

These researchers are tracking their physical imprint with an interactive map:

The scam website that is trying to steal money from artists is back, new logo and... very hastily made website.
Be wary of them, block and report and warn other artists.

Some poor soul from my country is facing criminal charges for writing gay fanfiction. Just so you understand why some artists outside of the west, even if queer themselves, may be hesistant to produce queer content.

This was from 2022. It was always clear that the "free speech™️" crowd were using those arguments to advance hate speech so once they were in power, they could ban and censor their political opposition.
The reactionaries are openly advocating bringing Russian and Hungarian style "gay propaganda" laws to the United States. The same people who are celebrating Musk taking over Twitter b/c of "free speech" want the government to ban and censor speech and content about LGBTQ people.

New: 404 Media is suing ICE. We have filed a lawsuit demanding ICE release its $2 million contract with Paragon, a company that makes powerful spyware to break into phones and read encrypted messages. This is expensive for a small outlet but this info is important

James Baldwin’s message was simple: we’re afraid of love, because we’re afraid of exposing our true selves. To manage that fear, we “other” the groups we don’t belong to in order to avoid a reckoning with ourselves.
The Lives and Loves of James Baldwin
An older generation dismissed him as passé; a newer one has recast him as a secular saint. But Baldwin’s true message remains more unsettling than either camp recognizes.

I think some people have trouble seeing fascism as anything other than 1940s Germany.

But I think 'people going to a comic convention needing to have a plan in case the government's goons show up to disappear people' is a pretty good demonstration of what it can look like in 2025.

I think one underdiscussed reason that people are gravitating towards these games is because they ask so little of your life *going forward*, too.

Most of them don’t have XP, or battle passes.

For almost any larger multiplayer effort that’s coming out these days, who could claim the same?

excellent thread. this shit is hard and people's money is limited.

that's not to say there's not a FUTURE where small/new sites grow big enough to hire staffs and in some small way replace what we've lost.

but for now? shit is hard.
As more journalists are driven out of their jobs, I keep hearing this drumbeat of "it's ok -- they can start their own newsletter or publication." Some can. But becoming your own business is a huge job, and will eliminate many talented reporters from the public sphere. Here's why. (1/5)

Everyone should be making noise about this huge media scandal in the New York Times. While Trump makes money off of frivolous lawsuits against CBS, ABC, etc, the Times is getting away with an anti-Mamdani hit job fed to them by a far right ‘race science’ guy, who they kept anonymous!
