I'm exhausted. I don't want to post something like this again. But here I am. Still looking for work. Sigh. Thank you for any advice, interactions, shares, & donations. Still rooting for everyone to come out on top of all this devastation❤️

It's been one year since I was laid off from Bungie, and I'm still looking for full time work.
If you've got any leads on game design or games qa positions, please reach out. I'm a skilled designer, and nothing I led QA for ever had any bugs ship.

I liked when James Baxter used to do occasional guest spots on animated TV shows. I assume studios had a bat signal for him, except instead of a static bat it was a horse running in perspective towards the camera while the camera rotated around it

I don't have a sign to tap but, now that it's Prime Day again; you CAN disengage from Amazon. It wasn't super easy when I did it a decade ago (it's probably a lot harder now), but it's worth doing.

I adore @paperflan.bsky.social's minicomic A Box Full of Darkness, in which a young mage attempts necromancy to bring back the spirit of her cat familiar. Losing a companion is difficult, but the artist handles the theme of grief with care and grace. 🔮 www.shortboxcomicsfair.com/shop-sq4wj/p...
A panel from Gina Nguyen's minicomic A Box Full of Darkness. A young woman speaks to the spirit of her cat familiar, telling it, "Thank you, and... I'm sorry." I won't lie, I teared up a little at this scene.

Hot take: Grocery store layouts should be standardized.

This game also got me with the DLC carrot where you can play Butter-Fly in battle or as the field BG music. Worth it.

If you've been following my Have You Seen My Cats? posts on Fridays, I'm happy to announce that the remaining books are now on my etsy! www.etsy.com/listing/4381...
Get them while they last! I only have 9 left before a reprinting.

I only really started consistently drawing again earlier this year cause I did the 3 things outlined above. Your mileage will vary, but if you are someone who wants to build up the habit of keeping a sketchbook, either for the first time or rebuilding it, try them.
priello.bsky.social
Part of the reason I made a different career is because I got super burnt out as an artist 6 years ago and made the choice to pivot to something else. I just did not love drawing anymore but had to cause it was my job. So I made something else my job.
priello.bsky.social
I also acknowledge that this is a privileged take because my lively hood is not directly tied to my follower count or my posts 'doing the numbers'. I have a day job where I'm not an artist, so I can rarely post art and it doesn't impact my ability to pay for rent/food/bills.

3. Rarely Share It on Social Media

Another thing SM platforms have done is force artists to be content farms. Everything you do, including drawing in your sketchbook, must be shared so it can do numbers. This forces artists to make every page 'worthy' of posting.
priello.bsky.social
It's also where I test out art supplies cause this keeps me from being too precious about it. Social Media has really wrapped how we treat sketchbooks, where each page needs to be curated masterpiece. Sketchbooks are where you learn and learning is messy.

2. Do whatever with it.

My current sketchbook also doubles as a travel journal/scrapbook. Not only does it give me a space to record memories/save mementos on the fly, it also becomes a reflection of me. I can look back at this to see what I drew AND did at the same time.

1. Keep it in my purse.

Wild concept, I know. I have a 5"x5" book that put a pen loop on, so its always in my purse and I can keep my favorite sketching pen attached to it. It's great for doing quick 5-10 sketches when waiting at restaurants and stuff.

After a very long hiatus from regularly using my sketchbooks, I've managed to fill up 1/3rd of one over the past couple of months. Few things that have helped:
