I loved the Stranger Things finale, particularly the epilogue. In fact, the entire fifth season is worth that epilogue. It was incredibly honest and well executed. Bravo to all involved with the finale, the season, and the entire series. I will miss these characters.

When Rob Reiner was on his all-time epic run at the start of his career, he had an opportunity to read a script that was looking for a production partner, and he lost his mind for it. He decided Castle Rock had to have it, no matter what.

I've got more to see before the year's over, but right now, I'd honestly say everything in my top 100 is worth seeing. I'm still trying to fine tune the order of things, but it's been such a good year for movies, folks.

I'll keep track here of every new film I see in 2025 and loosely rank them to make it easier to finalize my list at the end of the year. As the year rounds into the home stretch, I'm feeling pretty go...

Thing I was not expecting: a 4-star review of Predator: Badlands from Matt Zoller Seitz; he calls it “an exceptional sci-fi action thriller with memorable characters, beautiful and terrifying animals (and plants), a structurally airtight script…” [rogerebert.com]
Predator: Badlands movie review (2025) | Roger Ebert
An exceptional sci-fi action thriller with memorable characters and lead performances that deserve to be included in discussions of the year’s best.

Being poor is very expensive.
People did warn me when I was younger to pursue high-paying fields, and I always shrugged them off. I thought, “I’m not a materialistic person, I don’t want to live in luxury—I’ll be fine making a modest salary. Money’s not important to me.”

Turns out you need a shitload of money just to be broke.

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is my favorite novel. That said, I did not go into @realgdt.bsky.social’s film expecting it to become my favorite film, nor even my favorite del Toro film. Alas, the film, even with its many changes, remains an incredibly faithful adaptation and one of the 2025’s best.
