How ironic, ICE doesn’t like when random strangers come up to them in public aggressively asking for papers and to ID themselves? Woman are holding it down

(5) Show me that age and country where the rights and liberties of the people were placed on the sole chance of their rulers being good men, without a consequent loss of liberty! I say that the loss of that dearest privilege has ever followed, with absolute certainty, every such mad attempt.

(4) but its defective and imperfect construction puts it in their power to perpetrate the worst of mischiefs, should they be bad men. Would not all the world . . . blame our distracted folly in resting our rights upon the contingency of our rulers being good or bad?

(3) Where are your checks in this government? Your strongholds will be in the hands of your enemies. It is on a supposition that your American governors shall be honest, that all the good qualities of this government are founded;

(2) Your President may easily become king. Your Senate is so imperfectly constructed that your dearest rights may be sacrificed by what may be a small minority; and a very small minority may continue forever unchangeably this government, although horridly defective.

(1) Man, Patrick Henry really saw it coming:

"This Constitution is said to have beautiful features; but when I come to examine these features, sir, they appear to me horribly frightful. Among other deformities, it has an awful squinting; it squints towards monarchy . . .

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

I always watch each episode in parts: one day for the signature, next day the technical, third day the showstopper. Gotta space it out to make the good feelings last longer.

Texas and California added more clean power capacity in 2024 than the next 30 US states combined. In California, two Bay Area refineries (around 15% of that state’s capacity) are closing as demand for gasoline falls into permanent decline. buff.ly/lLMyPU3

California Refineries Close as Gasoline Demand Slips into Permanent Decline - CleanTechnica
California’s refineries are closing not because of regulation, but because gasoline demand is shrinking as EV adoption crosses tipping points.

Do you have any influence with the Illinois State Police? Are you, perhaps, in charge of them in some way? Or are they totally out of your control? Until you explain what is going on with the state police, how can we trust a single thing you say?

Coates says Black Americans have stories about relatives who were lynched or had to flee and that a life free of political violence is not in reach in his time

Klein:
"Sometimes I think that having a historical scope that wide can make the present too deterministic."

They lynched a kid last week.

This was revealing. Worth reading. The basic demand is that Coates spend less time thinking/writing his true feelings and more time playing political strategist. Klein asks him over and over him to do Dem strategy; he says no, over and over. www.nytimes.com/2025/09/28/o...

Imagine if they had all got up and walked out. They could have really served their country. But as I learned in my time in the military, almost everyone above the rank of Captain was a politician. Expecting a general officer to risk their career for the sake of their country is an impossible dream.
