Zack Polanski saying what every politician should be saying,

"It's problematic to weaponise the synagogue attack to silence protest in this country against the genocide in Gaza"

"These are separate things and we should condemn them both"

My heartbreak and horror at the killing and starvation of Gazans does not negate my total support and solidarity with my fellow jewish citizens across the UK against terror. The conflation on display by some politicians and media outlets over the last 24 hours is sickening.

🇮🇪 What an inspiring story 💪

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 In 1986 Glasgow City Council changed the name of the street where apartheid South Africa had their Consulate, to “NELSON MANDELA PLACE”

As a result, mail posted to the SA Consulate included the name of Nelson Mandela in the address 💪

It’s the responsibility and the duty of anyone with a public platform to keep reminding everybody that civilisations flourish by collaboration not hostility and prejudice. This includes intellectuals who keep to their lanes in generating knowledge. Make no mistake, this is absolutely your lane.

But Reform UK want to get rid of regulators and cut govt spending ... leading to less investigation and enforcement ... more bribery and security threats.

It would be good if the only political pushback against Nigel Farage's plans to mass deport hundreds of thousands of our neighbours, friends, family and colleagues didn't just come from a handful of backbench MPs and one regional mayor

As well as the fantasy £234 bn, journalists should also be clear Farage's claims most new migrants don't work, and those who do are on low wages, are entirely false.

In fact, 1.8 million recent migrants are on payrolls (others will be self employed).

Any journalist quoting this absurd, invented £234 billion number cited by Farage/Reform should make absolutely clear that it has been withdrawn by *its own authors* (the Centre for Policy Studies) after they admitted it contained several major errors (1/3)
Farage pledges to expel hundreds of thousands of migrants
Reform says mass deportation would save £234bn as it warns ‘Boriswave’ of migration will take critical toll on welfare system

Good to see report has already had some media pick up: www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/policy-...

Report highlights 2 sim sized countries that have managed to reduce substance use (Iceland) & suicide (Ireland). These suggest we need stronger, joined up leadership & resourcing for coherent strategies, clearer govt focus on implementation & more joined up longitudinal data & community insights 3/3

We highlight that men aged 18-44 facing socioeconomic disadvantage are at particularly high risk of these 'deaths of despair' but seem to fall between many support mechanisms. We argue they are an important 'policy blind spot') & too often end up experiencing prison or homelessness 2/3
