In an era when gaming literacy is fundamental to understanding popular culture and technological power, 'Ready Reader One' examines the role of videogame literature in explaining not only how we play videogames, but the stories we tell with, about, and around them.

Today, a question came up with a group of organizers I’m working with, some of whom are also lawyers, and it’s a serious inquiry:

Is anyone undertaking an effort to collect evidence that could eventually be used in a Nuremberg-style set of trials, or for a truth and reconciliation commission?

Trump: "I don't know what could be worse than Portland. You don't even have stores anymore. They don't even put glass up. They put plywood on their windows."

Being a college professor is weird. The variety of stuff I do on a given day and week to week can be dizzying. It’s genuinely a solid set of labor practices and it can fun! And if you’re unionized and you’re protected by a strong tenure system, even better. But still weird, especially these days.

CNN: “An older couple making $85K/year will see their yearly insurance premiums jump from $7K to $25,000 — 30% of their income.” 😳#TrumpShutdown #TrumpHealthCareTax

This is what Dems are drawing attention to and want fixed. Now, not later.

Pritzker: "He wants to militarize major cities because he wants us to get used to the idea of troops on the streets. I believe he's gonna post people outside of polling places and if he needs to in order to control those elections, he'll assume control of the ballot boxes & count the votes himself"

Pritzker: "It's unconscionable. This has never happened before. They're calling out troops onto the streets of a state that doesn't want them and they're not even telling us where they're gonna go, what they're gonna do. This hasn't happened I don't think since the Civil War."

This is Adelita Grijalva.

She was elected to Congress two weeks ago, officially making her the final vote needed to force the release of the Epstein files.

She has still not been sworn in because Mike Johnson refuses to do so.

Devil May Cry Director Hideaki Itsuno says he designed DMC5’s pacing with potato chips in mind!

He designed scenarios so players know when they can take a potato chip break. He wanted to make it clear when a cutscene was coming & give enough time to take a small break to eat some potato chips!

I think @mattseybold.bsky.social and the American Vandal podcast have some useful perspectives on the connections between the attack on academic humanities and the intensified exploitation of academic and artistic labor by way of EdTech. Also, Nick Clegg can f right off over there forever.

A fascinating interview with @jdragsky.bsky.social about the way we consider (and fail to consider) the TTRPG rulebook as an object in itself. For me, this focus articulates TTRPGs with the history of the book, experimental book design, and concrete poetics.

Very much enjoying the cognitive dissonance between, on one hand, teaching my students about the ethical virtue and legal necessity of crediting one's sources and influences and on the other, this slopmeistering . . .

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

This will be a vote to erase 50 years of medical and psychiatric knowledge and kill gay and trans kids, because MAGA Republicans feel that in a better world, fewer of them would exist. It is that simple. Democrats must make SCOTUS expansion part of the party platform. www.nytimes.com/live/2025/10...
