At this point last season we had 13 losses; it’s 12 at this point this season. Last season this is the lineup + bench we were forced to put out in a 2-1 loss to Leicester. And you’re trying to convince me we don’t have the players this season to do better?

This is a very good side, actually. All but 5-6 teams in the league would be happy to put this 11 out against anyone. We have significantly better squad depth this season to cope with injuries.

Bit of a noisy table, but we’ve taken the lead 18 times this season, surrendered it 7 times, and had less possession in 2nd half in 14 of 17 games in which we’ve taken the lead.

And I think the game bares this out. 2nd half territory demands more intensity from our defending. 100% of Dortmund's shots, xG came in the second half. Defending is really hard and really tiring!

Frank has now had 20 games with Romero + VDV, surrendering 1.35 GA/90 and 1.18 xGA/90, compared with .8 and .86 respectively last season. Strong case to be made that, ceteris paribus, attacking is the best form of defending.

We have a crazy number of injuries but you can’t tell me Romero & VDV are a bad, mismatched pairing, or a midfield with Gallagher and Xavi is no good, or this front 3 can’t be productive with touches and chances in a functional in-possession setup. Gray and Davies playing their actual positions. Etc
