I hadn't read this until just now and like, this interview is what has people mad about Schumer ignoring ICE as an electoral issue? Really?

EGAN: There's effectively been an invasion of an American city by ICE. But there's been real, earnest divisions among Democrats over how best to handle it. What are you
willing to use as leverage to rein in ICE? Has it made you rethink whether to fund the government?
SCHUMER: What ICE is doing just wrenches your stomach. When you see these pictures, that is not a democracy. ICE is out of control. They are not properly trained, they are not properly supervised. And I think America is looking at this and is very upset.
People do not like these ICE agents as roaming police forces. And so our appropriators, the Appropriations Committee, is now working on the Homeland Security bill, and they are trying to come up with a bill. Look, Democrats want some real restrictions on ICE. There's no question about it.

EGAN: But from your perspective, is this now a part of life in America that we have to endure until and unless Democrats are back
in power?
SCHUMER: Republicans are paying a price when they fail to do something about ICE, which the American people hate, and Democrats are going to do everything we can to restrain them, limit them, curtail them.

EGAN: Back on record. Throughout your career, you've talked about this imaginary New York couple, the Baileys. They represent your average middle-class voter.
You've talked about how they voted for Trump in 2024 because of crime. How do you think they're reacting to the situation in Minnesota?
SCHUMER: The Baileys and the average American is really upset by what they see.

it's totally true that a tweet going viral on Twitter goes harder than it does elsewhere but if you look at Mr Tomlinson's tweets that didn't go viral a different engagement picture emerges. not cherry picked, just his last four tweets

btw this graph in @pabloreports.bsky.social 's story does not support the fan-fic thesis that he, himself, reported a Senate Dem offer of additional ICE funding in exchange for body cams. I can't find the Politico article he's talking about

Specifically, Gomez's bill would create a monthly Renter Tax Credit for families that pay more than 30% of their income on rent, provide $50,000 or more in down-payment assistance for first-generation homebuyers, convert vacant office buildings into affordable housing through a 20-35% Affordable Housing Conversion Credit, and expand production of affordable housing through a Low-Income Housing Tax Credit.
