I seriously toyed with getting a Batman tattoo, "Batman" is the first word I learned to read and write and the guy is basically divinity for me but I emphatically do not want to be associated with Batman fans!

The reason why many US Christians do this is because US evangelicals believe that Israel is where it will all happen when the rapture comes. They see all the Jews and Muslims and the *wrong* kinds of Christians who live there as kindling, but support it in the meantime so their dreams can come true
I've noticed this too, but both in Canada (I'm Canadian) and in the USA, regardless of the recent history, the government administration just stands in solidarity with Israel, regardless of what happens.
And, being in the capital, there are a LOT of protests by Palestinians against Israeli Aggro 1/2
