Alexis is just 11 years old. His father was violently torn from him in this preventable act of traffic violence.

We are so immensely saddened by this tragedy, and grateful for Alexis’ courage.

A vigil for pedestrian lives lost at a dangerous and ignored Providence intersection

"All I want is justice," said Alexis Garcia. "That’s all I want, so no one else can die here, and no one has to suffer through what I have suffered.”

We implore Mayor Smiley & @pvdcitycouncil.bsky.social to put more time & attention into this spot and to accelerate the Washington Secondary Trail extension project that will wildly improve this intersection. 2027 may be too late for another person!! Plans here: www.providenceri.gov/wp-content/u...
Concept plan showing a new configuration of Union Ave and Art 10, including a lane, extended curb, and crosswalk improvements

Thanks to all who attended our vigil for Lucas Garcia and Violet Barracks yesterday. It is heartbreaking to have multiple fatalities at the same intersection, but unsurprising with a slip lane and no pedestrian signal.

Absolutely heartbreaking and maddening that a pedestrian was killed here just three years ago and nothing has changed.

How much bloodshed has to happen before things change here? The Safe Streets for All project for this area cannot happen fast enough!

if you’re ever feeling down I recommend getting a dozen friends and installing planters for traffic calming and beautification

thanks @pvdstreets.bsky.social (and @sueanderbois.bsky.social)!

Helped install planters on N Main St right before Olney St. in Providence, RI. These help keep cars from driving illegally, making it safer for everyone on the street.

My intern tries to arrive to the store between 10am-11am. He texted me in a panic bc his bus still hadn't arrived as of 1059am. He didn't get to us until ~1pm. He spent more time waiting in the rain than at work. #McKeeStrandedMe

I'm worried for next week.

🚌❌Today Rhode Island wakes up to a grim new reality. RIPTA buses across the state are no longer running due to @govdanmckee.bsky.social’s sweeping service changes that eliminate weekend service on many routes, reduce frequency all week long, and cripple RIPTA’s ability to provide reliable service.

“Traveling on the RIPTA has brought recent headlines to life. We learned that the service cuts to be implemented on Sept. 27 will make it harder for those relying on public transit to make it to work on time.”

You cannot build your way out of the housing crisis without public transit to get people to their jobs, classes, and places they need to go.

Starting Saturday @govdanmckee.bsky.social’s sweeping cuts to RIPTA go into effect, kneecapping any progress we are making on housing.
govdanmckee.bsky.social
Rhode Island isn’t just talking about the housing crisis—we’re building our way out of it.

The Presley Apartments is a prime example, transforming a hotel into 190 new units.

We’ve made real progress, and we’re accelerating toward our goal of permitting 15K new units by 2030.

These service cuts were preventable if
@govdanmckee.bsky.social didn’t shortchange RIPTA in the first place. Shame on you! Many riders will have to deal with less frequent service because of you & RIDOT Director/RIPTA Board Chair Alviti. We'll definitely remember this at the ballot box next year.😡🗳
