Proclivity to see the world using paradox and counter-balance; interested in generative structures in music/language. Tend to think of politics as microeconomics-caring much abt what grand ideas mean to the individual. Gandhi/Schweitzer over Marx.

Everybody loves brownfield-first. But where exactly should we densify our cities? And how?

Our new report shows Britain's density gap is wider in the biggest cities outside London than in the capital - and the inner city 'urban cores' up to 5km out from the centre are to blame.

Like most here, I usually just like and repost. But even with a clunky writing style, I try to write sth original once in a while. The principle that being a producer makes you a sharper consumer has helped me in music, film, and sciences. It feels like a necessary discipline, even on social media.

Great thread pointing up lots of classical music people we should all be following.

I was already following lots - but have found more to follow!
Long shot (mainly due to how little engagement I get on here), but I'm looking for freelance writers with an interest, or specialism in, classical music.

If you are one, or know one, please give me a shout.

The 'no AI in class' alarms remind me of my dad banning calculator. He was right-doing math by hand built my number sense. But that didn't mean I'd never use a calc. I've taken exams with none and w a supercomputer. The goal was to learn its purpose-not to ban it. We just need rules for AI in class.

One thing that's crazy w tennis is how quickly new ideas are adopted. I'm old enough to remember Becker's volleys, Agassi's returns, Djoker's slide and SABR-but now you see that DNA in every player- while Sinner's slingshot is being talked about. Every new skill is a mutation that changes the sport.

I do have a soft spot for Starbucks from college days-but every fan who visits Italy and finds out how coffee is consumed there ends up wondering why one doesn't hear more about cultural appropriation of 🛵, Pisa+other paraphrenalia in their shops while Strbks literally poured sugary syrups on coffee

What appears as culture war may hide a fiscal reality. Popular media seems worried abt societal changes while business news is talking abt disparate costs from EU & non-EU migrants-the latter having risen post-Brexit. A likely case of policy getting to know abt high ILR costs thru Dutch econ papers.

Econ undergrads might believe that game theorists are in huge demand in the industry. The truth is, microeconsts survive mostly on econometrics. Actually understanding behaviour remains a humanities question- lot harder, but useful in labs still, not in boardrooms- where macroeconsts sit in suits.

It's embarrassing that I have fwded this clip to so many people for them to feel how just intonation can be more pleasing than equal-temperament - but I never learned to create Lissajous figures myself. Been on my todo list for far too long. Enjoyable clip still!

I get it:AI is mostly hype-but while y'all are bashing tech-bros, be sure not to position yourselves against the entire field of high-dimensional stats. Creative destruction it is-if you don't miss yellow pages/personal checks, you won't miss googling(in name of research) or formatting presentations
