this sustained cruelty just feels endless and without closure. god forbid i ever get assaulted and people make an ongoing spectacle of it because i wasn't a nice, quiet victim. because i was "too hysterical" or "my healing was impacting others". would everybody i knew, my peers, would they turn too?

and here's the thing: i have been so, so nice, and so, so patient. i understand feeling like you didn't do something wrong, or like you're being pressured to bend the knee by strangers online. i understand also that people can change. i never, ever intend to Destroy anyone!

this is why i stopped writing about games. this is why i gave up. this is why despite having a new blog, i can't find my voice anymore. all the people i trusted and thought were progressive and good are dying on this absolutely insane hill, and it has weighed on me for years. Years, now.

i WANTED to support aftermath. i was a subscriber! i love many pieces they've published! it sucks that the publication has, due to these recurring public situations, become tied to the online abuse i want to end. because nobody can be sorry and admit they or their friends made a mistake.

i'm so tired of it. at least have a spine. just say "i don't care what my friend did, i will defend them regardless" or better yet, "i don't care if lawhead or valens are harassed because my friend mouthed off about them to 70k+ followers"

when i was fighting to get the article that exploited my sexual assault taken down, Gita Jackson would constantly subtweet snarky, catty, dehumanizing takes about my situation. their following and friends harassed me endlessly with terfy slurs and jokes about my mental health. it just wouldn’t stop.

for those who dont know: this week, gita jackson called ana valens, an investigative games journalist, a "dumbfuck" (in all caps, apparently) for accepting a low rate on an article she wrote. everybody has been calling valens a scab as a result. which is wildly reductive and untrue
