Pas na 1956 verschenen er partijnamen (van onze juristen moet ik zeggen 'aanduidingen') op het stembiljet. Die namen moeten wel eerst geregistreerd worden bij de Kiesraad. Daar ging een verhit Kamerdebat aan vooraf, want sommige leden vreesden dat verkiezingen om partijen zouden gaan draaien...

Ben jij al gaan stemmen? Je hebt nog iets minder dan 2,5 uur! Voor iedereen die verzucht dat het stembiljet wel erg groot is: misschien leuk om te weten dat het stembiljet in de loop der jaren flinke veranderingen is ondergaan.

In veel landen worden de Verenigde Staten in toenemende mate gezien als de grootste bedreiging. Dat blijkt uit onderzoek van Pew Research Center. In Mexico en Canada, vindt respectievelijk 68 en 59 procent van de bevolking dat de Verenigde Staten een gevaar vormen. Maar ook landen die verder weg liggen van de Verenigde Staten merken het land steeds vaker aan als een bedreiging.
