Overall, Stacy Chaffin did fine. She's an excellent litigator. She did have some difficulty with Judge Nelson, but at that point he wasn't asking questions seeking answers, he was arguing with her and using sarcasm to dismiss her replies.

It's hard to present your case in that circumstance.
Gabriel, question: obviously this went badly for Oregon. Was it entirely based on Nelson's (extreme) bias, or was Chaffin not presenting the case well?

And that's just from the first 6 weeks of 2025 - how many criminal cases have been dismissed day of trial in Multnomah County because the State is Unable To Proceed (SUTP) since then?
How much is this impacting the thousands of Oregonians on the unrepresented list?

How much did these 88 cases that were ultimately dismissed cost in terms of court resources & jail resources? How much did this cost public defense & tie up public defenders & prevent them from taking on other cases?

Sure! There were at least 68 cases dismissed in Multnomah County in January 2025, and 20 more dismissed the first 2 weeks of February - many of these were dismissed day of trial...how much money did this waste?
