The government's recent action that cut Planned Parenthood out of Medicaid reimbursements is a serious attack on reproductive freedom in Idaho. We applaud Planned Parenthood's commitment to providing equal access to health care for all, regardless of income, gender, immigration status, or zip code.
‘We aren’t going anywhere:’ Idaho’s last Planned Parenthood plans to stay open despite federal cuts • Idaho Capital Sun
Despite federal cuts from the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act," Idaho's last Planned Parenthood clinic is here to stay, its health workers say.

Even better, she's trans 🙄

I don't know how to convince people that trans rights aren't some unique and special thing. It's literally just about healthcare, security, and identity. If America decides it can deny medication to Lisa because of who she is, then it can deny care to anyone.

Trans rights are civil rights. If you aren't willing to die on the hill of trans rights, then you aren't willing to die on the hill of Black rights. Of Jewish rights. Of disabled rights. Of gay rights. Of anyone's rights. Human rights.

I hate to say it but the majority of the country is not going to die on the hill of trans rights. We can’t protect ANY groups if we can’t win a national election, so purity tests only serve to make specific groups feel triumphant. That’s not “erasing” them; it’s long-horizon strategy.

I’m a pretty innocuous poster (at least I think I am), but still it feels like as a queer person I could get booted from here at any time. So I’ve also created a myatpro.social and likewise really grateful they’re offering that.

I've written my analysis of today's grim Supreme Court oral argument in the conversion therapy case:

As far as the Court's concerned, imaginary medical uncertainty gives states the authority to hurt queer kids, and takes away states' authority to protect them

The Conservative Justices Don't Trust Any Science That Supports LGBTQ Kids
States that want to facilitate discrimination against LGBTQ people have the Court's blessing. States that want to protect LGBTQ people from discrimination do not.

It was a relatively short adventure in my career! In those years everyone started at ABX as an FE, but advancement to FO came pretty quickly, in less than a year. The FE license is a separate one and was getting rare in the late 90’s. It was a pretty cool job and a fun challenge!

And, argh 😖 just noticed the typo… this accident happened in *1968* not 62.

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11

The 75th anniversary book just arrived the day it went on sale. Written by my favorite popular culture historian and biographer, Mark Evanier. Hard to believe that Good ol' Charlie Brown is 75-years-young.

Yes! It later flew passengers again before migrating to freight 😊

Wiki has a pretty interesting account of the salvage operation here in the “Aftermath” section! I agree, it must have been a pretty smooth touchdown! I recall being told the water was quite shallow there, too, might have somehow made a difference.

I thought it was pretty cool! The DC-8 was quite the beast and, in the late 90’s when we were flying it was becoming extinct. A fellow FE described it as “like working in a museum!” 😁

Wiki has the story in “Aftermath” here! No major damage helped the effort, but pretty interesting how they extricated it and amazing to me they didn’t damage it further during that operation!

I’m grinding through some really dull training today and scrolling down memory lane during breaks. Here’s a pic of a plane I later flew… In 1962 this JAL flight landed short of the airport in SF Bay. Everyone survived! I later served as flight engineer on this same plane for a cargo carrier.
JAL DC-8-62 resting in San Francisco Bay after landing short of the airport. Looking from above and behind the aircraft. The plane is floating and someone is standing on the right wing. Several boats and a raft are floating near the right wing and ahead of the aircraft, with passengers and rescuers seen in them. A Coast Guard helicopter is hovering above. Black and white photo.

Secretary of transportation posted to Twitter & said on TV that air traffic controllers start at $180k & make up to $400k

This is a lie.

Also, controllers aren't being paid *anything* right now.

As controllers call in sick due to shutdown they want you not to feel sorry for them. It's bullshit.

You could just talk about Jim Crow. I promise you, there's no need to leave America's shores to talk about life in a fascist state
motherjones.com
Under the Third Reich, most Germans generally lived in the law-bound normative state, while Jews and other disfavored people were victims of the arbitrary and violent prerogative state.

The dual state is characterized by the facade of normalcy obscuring the fact of an authoritarian state.
The “dual state” theory was invented to describe Nazis. The Supreme Court could take us there.

It's really telling the hypocrisy of the conservative justices in today's case vs. Skrmetti. They were eager to enable Tennessee to "protect children" from being trans, but they are very skeptical of Colorado trying to protect children from harm. The only consistency is anti-LGBTQ bigotry.

However, when KISS shouted to us in 1976 that Wichita, KS was the rock and roll capital of the world, it seemed fully believable.

I used to really look forward to oral arguments. I can't imagine being a constitutional law professor trying to teach current law students about this fucking Court and the rule of law.

alright literal lol at the shitty lawyer responding to a question from Sotomayor like 'this is similar to this other fuckedup case, the Court here should do what it did there' and Sotomayor saying 'remember I dissented in that case'
